Two NBL teams enduring tough seasons will face off in round 14 this Wednesday when the Cairns Taipans host the Adelaide 36ers at the Cairns Pop Up Arena.

The 36ers are coming off one of their best performances of the season, beating the Perth Wildcats by 15 points on Saturday in a very clinical performance.

Young star Josh Giddey finished that game with 13 points and 12 assists, while veteran Daniel Johnson hit four three-pointers on his way to 28 points.

The Taipans were unlucky in their most recent match, losing by two points to the Illawarra Hawks on Sunday with Scott Machado missing the second half due to a corked leg.

Cameron Oliver has been a star for the Taipans this season, but he will need to be at his best to quell in-form import Brandon Paul this Wednesday.

Paul has scored over 20 points in three of his last six matches, shooting the lights out from beyond the arc when he gets into rhythm.

The Taipans were unstoppable in the last clash between these sides back in round 11, so it will take a big effort from the 36ers to get the win here.
