Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers BBL13 preview

The BBL Challenger will take place on Monday night, with the Brisbane Heat hosting the Adelaide Strikers at Carrara Stadium.

The Strikers find themselves in an incredibly rich vein of form, having won their last five matches in a row, with two of those being against the Perth Scorchers. Their most recent win was against the BBL defending champions in Perth, where the Scorchers were dismissed for 105 runs. The win came with thanks largely because of the role spin-twins Lloyd Pope and Cameron Boyce played in claiming seven wickets between them. One of the largest questions hanging over the heads of the Strikers is the impact their recent travels will have on the side. Can they overcome the long flights to and from Perth to put the Heat out?

The Heat are facing issues of their own without the international experience of Colin Munro and Sam Billings in the batting order. The bowling unit performed well against the Sixers in the BBL Qualifier, taking eight wickets and limiting the visitors to 152 runs. However, the lack of experience in the batting saw the Heat’s middle order put under pressure and fail to chase down the winning target. Can the Heat find their way back to winning form on Monday to set up a rematch with the Sixers at the SCG?

Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers betting predictions

The Heat have been bookmaker favourites in the betting markets early, garnering support from punters, which has seen their prices shorten from -111.11 to -117.65 to win. While the Heat have lost seven of their last nine matches on the Gold Coast, they have won three of their last five games against the Scorchers, with their most recent match being abandoned due to rain. In their home state, with less inter-state travel in recent days and favourable weather conditions for a fast bowling attack predicted, the Heat appear to be in a better position to win the Challenger (-117.65) and book their spot in the BBL13 Final.

Paul Walter has been one of the Heat’s best bowlers and most successful English allrounder imports in recent years this season. Walter has taken 15 wickets in his nine matches, including two wickets per innings in four of the Heat’s last five bowling innings. With favourable conditions predicted for fast bowling, +200 is great value at Dabble for Walter to take 2+ wickets for the Heat on Monday.

Since re-joining the Heat side this season, Jimmy Pierson has reminded fans of the Heat and BBL competition why he is one of the best wicketkeeper-batters in Australia. Despite losses in both matches, Pierson’s experience at the top of the batting order has resulted in back-to-back matches as the side’s leading runscorer. If the Heat are to win on Monday, Pierson will again need to be the side’s leading runscorer (+500).
