The top of the table Perth Scorchers head to Coffs Harbour where they are set to take on the Sydney Sixers in a blockbuster clash in the Big Bash League.

These two sides fought out a low scoring affair at Metricon Stadium on Tuesday night and despite Dan Christian’s best efforts with the bat, the Scorchers got the better of their rivals by 10 runs.

Sydney would have thought they were well and truly in the game when restricting the Scorchers to 8/143. All-rounder Dan Christian tried his heart out with the ball, picking up 2/14 off his four over spell, whilst young fast bowler Hayden Kerr produced a career best haul of 4/32 off his four overs. If the likes of Jackson Bird, Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis can chip in with a wicket or two of their own, then this Sixers bowling attack can seriously trouble the Scorchers once again.

The Sydney Sixers have won the last two BBL titles, but if they are to make it three in a row, they are going to need more out of their opening partnership. Josh Philippe and James Vince have only managed opening stands of 0, 0, 24, 44 and 30 in their past five matches and considering their international quality, the side will be wanting a lot more from the openers. With a middle order of Moises Henriques, Christian and Jordan Silk, if the Sixers can build a solid platform at the top, a big score could be on the cards.

Perth have tasted defeat on two occasions so far in BBL11, with both of those defeats coming at the hands of the Sydney Thunder. They have however, had the measure of all the other teams in the competition and with a win against the Sixers on Sunday, they will all but sew up a playoff spot. Despite the loss of Tymal Mills (international duties), the Scorchers are set to welcome back Jason Behrendorff who will be the off stump of the Sixers openers as the Scorchers look to extend the run of outs for Philippe and Vince.

If there is an area the Scorchers will be hoping to build on, it is the output of their batting lineup, with too much being left to the middle order in recent times. Kurtis Patterson and Colin Munro will be needing to set the tone at the top of the order and if one of them can go on to a big score, it leaves the middle order with an opportunity to explode towards the backend of their innings.

Perth Scorchers to win

It is easy to say that the Scorchers may just rock up to Coffs Harbour and blow the Sydney Sixers away considering the lack of runs the Sixers have managed in recent times. With scores of 8/106 and 8/133, the Scorchers will be confident that their star-studded attack of Behrendorff, Andrew Tye, Ashton Agar and Peter Hatzoglou can keep the Sixers to a respectable total or keep it tight enough in a run chase. We’re confident that if the Scorchers can get a big score from one of Munro, Patterson or Cameron Bancroft, then they should have too much firepower for the reigning champs.

Top Perth Scorhers Wicket Taker: Andrew Tye

Andrew Tye has managed to pick up a wicket in all but the two game he played at Marvel Stadium against the Renegades earlier in the season and we expect his good form to continue at Coffs Harbour. The former Australian quick has 18 wickets in BBL11 and with his ability at the backend of a bowling innings, the big Western Australian is more than capable of picking up a few cheap poles at the end. He is paying $3 to be the Scorchers’ leading wicket taker and at those odds as the leading wicket taker in the comp and in our eyes that is too good a price to pass up.
