As the Big Bash League approaches the closing stages of the season, the Sydney Sixers travel to GMHBA Stadium to take on the Melbourne Renegades on Tuesday night.

The Renegades were nothing short of deplorable when they played the Thunder in their last game conceding 7/209 when bowling and were sensationally skittled for 80 in reply. Each bowler went for over seven runs an over, but the international quality of Zahir Khan (16.33) and Kane Richardson (9.75) were two of the biggest culprits.

If the Renegades regain James Pattinson, it should give this inexperienced side a steady head to rely on, rather than leaving it to the likes of Zak Evans, Josh Lalor and Will Sutherland.

The Gades have many issues when it comes to run scoring, perhaps no more so glaring then wicket keeper Sam Harper at the top of the order. In his last three innings, he has scores of 4, 0 and 7 and consistently leaves the Renegades middle order exposed to the new rock. If the Renegades opt to go with the experienced duo of Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh at the top, with Harper in at three, it may give the Sixers bowlers something to think about if they cannot get early wickets.

Sydney is coming off a five wicket defeat to the top of the table Perth Scorchers on Sunday night, but seemingly got their act together at the top of the order. Having struggled in recent times, Josh Philippe got a start when amassing 32 runs off 22 balls and gave the Sixers a solid enough platform alongside Justin Avendano when adding 56 for the first wicket. Five of the six batsman who got to the crease got a start, but were not able to go on with it, leaving them about 20 runs short of par when setting the Scorchers 4/151.

Despite the Renegades recent struggles, we would expect a score of 170-180 from the Sixers to be enough, considering they will most likely be without Steven O’Keefe and Sean Abbott once again. The two Australian internationals missed their last game through covid-19 protocols and with Moises Henriques also missing, will leave a big gap in experience for the boys in magenta.

Melbourne Renegades to win

Despite being rolled for 80 against the Sydney Thunder, we are expecting a complete form reversal on Tuesday night. With the Sixers missing plenty of key players, we expect the experience of Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh to have the Renegades right in this contest. If Zahir Khan and Kane Richardson can be at their economical best, alongside the returning the returning Pattinson, then the $2.20 on offer for the Renegades to win looks to be a steal.

Top Sydney Sixers Run Scorer: Josh Philippe

Considering James Vince has returned to England and Moises Henriques is set to miss due to Covid-19 protocols, a lot will rely on Philippe to score the bulk of the runs for the Sixers. The wicket-keeper batsman has not been at his explosive best in recent times, but we expect the dangerous opener to regain his form down at Geelong. He has scores of 83, 72 and 99* in BBL11 and the Sixers will be needing him to be in that type of form on Tuesday evening. If he can get through his first 10 balls, then we anticipate Josh Philippe will end the innings as the Sixers top run scorer.
