Caulfield Race 6: #1 Paulele @ $2.60

Our best bet of the day comes up in the Group 2 Schillachi Stakes when the James Cummings-trained Paulele looks to make amends for a poor showing in the Moir Stakes. It was a night to be up on speed at The Valley but did manage to get warm nicely late on to suggest the 1100m he gets on Saturday should suit him perfectly. He has a more than serviceable wet track record of 9: 2-2-2 and with two wins and two minor placing at the trip he looks the one to beat. Paulele is clearly the class sprinter of the field and with JMac on board, Paulele should be far too superior for his rivals in the Schillachi.

Randwick Race 4: #1 Best Of Bordeaux @ $2.90

We had tipped Best Of Bordeaux on top in the Listed Heritage Stakes on September 24 but was ultimately scratched and saved for another day. He looked hard to beat on that day and looks just as hard to go past in Saturday’s Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes. He was last seen finishing second behind subsequent Golden Rose Stakes runner-up In Secret in the Run To The Rose on September 10 and despite being four weeks between runs, he looks to have a bit of class on his side over most of his rivals. He will be roaring along out in front under the careful hands of Ben Melham and having shown he can handle wet ground, he should be leading throughout and proving too hard to gun down. The $2.90 on offer looks to be a perfect price for Best Of Bordeaux.

Eagle Farm Race 7: #8 Hakkai Maru @ $5.50

Our best bet on the program will be the Louise White-trained Hakkai Maru in race seven over 1200m. This lightly raced four-year-old mare has put together a very impressive career record winning three of her first five starts. This daughter of Maurice won very impressively last start at Ipswich over 1200m, where she jumped, lead and kicked away on the turn to record a very nice two length victory. Since her win and last run, three of the horses she beat at Ipswich have come out and won, proving the race to be a great form reference. This will be Michael Cahill’s second ride on this mare, so hopefully he can have her rolling out in front in a rhythm, to kick on the bend repeating the dose here and continue winning.

Morphettville Race 2: #3 Wicked Addiction @ $4.60

The Kym Healy-trained Wicked Addiction will be our best bet in race two over 1600m after this gelding has compiled a second and a third at his last two starts over 1600m and 1550m. At both of those starts this son of Ambidexter has finished behind Yuri Royale by less than a length on both occasions. The early favourite in this race is France’s Boy who meets Wicked Addiction half a kilogram better at the weights but we don’t see that being a problem for our guy, as the former still has to make up over a length from last start. From barrier nine, Todd Pannell should be able to glide across the front of the field and sit on the outside of his main rival in the lead and be too strong over the concluding stages.

Ascot Race 10: #6 Treasured Star @ $2.20

Our best bet will be in the lucky last of the day, where the very smart Treasured Star from the Adam Durrant yard will return from a spell. This lightly raced four-year-old mare won the Group 2 WA Guineas before going out for a spell and now returns in a much lesser grade, a BM78. Adam Durrant has given this girl two trials before bringing her back to the races today, so she should be fit enough to win her first-up assignment today. Western Australia’s premier jockey, Clint Johnston-Porter will take the ride on this daughter of Toronado, after riding her at both of her trials, so we should be seeing this talented mare win again.
