Saturday Slingshot: Horse racing best bets for October 15, 2022

The Saturday Slingshot presented by Bettingsite.com.au is here and it brings you the best bets for horse racing in Australia on Saturday, October 15, 2022 to help you launch into a winning weekend on the punt.

All odds are provided by leading online bookmakers recommended by Bettingsite.com.au

Caulfield Race 3: #1 Mr Maestro @ $1.70

No prizes for tipping Mr Maestro in the Caulfield Classic, but the way he has won his last two starts suggests he is every bit a Group 1 stayer on his way to the Victoria Derby. He won the Derby Trial two starts back at Flemington comfortably and went to the Listed Super Impose Stakes and was eased down to be a two-length winner, but it could have been a whole lot further. The 2000m looks ideal and despite Damian Lane heading to ride Jacquinot in The Everest, he loses nothing with Harry Coffey hopping on board. The $1.70 on offer with BetOnline is much better than bank interest.

Randwick Race 3: #1 Cascadian @ $1.70

The Group 3 Craven Plate will be the third race of the day where the James Cummings-trained Cascadian looks awfully hard to beat after he smashed Numerian in the Group 2 Hill Stakes last start. This son of New Approach drops in grade from a Group 2 to a Group 3, but stays at the same weight and distance as last start. The only danger in the field will be the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Surf Dancer who will lead for a long way, but in the end Cascadian should be winning this race.

Eagle Farm Race 6: #11 Stellar Magic @ $2.80

We’re with Stellar Magic for the Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted yard as our best bet of the day at Eagle Farm. She comes here first-up in outstanding order after trialling very nicely on October 4 at this track over 800m. As a three-year-old she faced much tougher opposition in Listed races behind horses like Athelric back on June 4, and Zapateo prior to that on May 14. She was by no means disgraced in those efforts and she finds perfect conditions to run well this weekend. With a superior track record, only missing the frame once in six starts, Eagle Farm is her home stomping ground. Ben Thompson can find a midfield sit on this Star Turn mare from the inside draw and be storming home late to win at a very nice price.

Morphettville Race 2: #2 Ichibansan @ $3.10

The Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained Ichibansan is as honest a stayer as you could hope and despite finishing second at his past two starts, he looks a clear best bet of the day on Saturday. The five-year-old gelding was lipped out by Exalted Ruth two starts back, before being grabbed inside the final 50m by Trumpsta last time out in BM72 company. He steps back in grade slight to BM68 grade and with Logan McNeil on board claiming 3kg, we expect a bold front-running performance will help Ichibansan find his way back into the winner’s stall. He looks to be the sole speed influencer in this 1950m event and considering he has only been collared late on in slightly tougher races, he should prove too hard to gun down in this. We expect the $3.10 to tighten in as we get closer to the jump.

Ascot Race 6: #12 Swear To God @ $2.40

Russell Stewart brings his three-year-old colt Sweat To God back to Ascot, the track where he had plenty of success during his juvenile campaign in the autumn. He has chased home the likes of All Show and Snowdome in his career, but outside of those hotly contested races has shown he has above average ability. The son of Playing God will need a bit of luck early not to get trapped wide from barrier 10, but if Laqdar Ramoly can have this bloke settled in the one-one, the race could well be over by the first furlong. Swear To God is armed with an electric tun of foot for such an inexperience runner and with even luck should just be simply too good for this lot.
