Randwick Race 3: #5 Floating @ $2.45

Floating must go on top in this Saturday’s Midway at Randwick and looks one of the better bets of the day. His first-up effort was incredible and was a good thing beaten when going down by a lip to Travest at Warwick Farm on March 29. Rachel King did her best to weave a passage between gallopers on the inside, but just couldn’t get clear until the race was over, while Floating still had the audacity to hit the line in a photo finish. He missed out on a win but lost no admirers in the process and stepping out second-up with an almost identical set up, should see Floating finish off best this time. James McDonald takes the reins and has one start for one win on this gelding out of Puissance De Lune and from an ideal mid-field barrier draw, should be making it two for two.

Sandown Race 4: #1 Northern Barrage @ $2.25

The Mick Kent-trained Northern Barrage was hitting the line with great intent over 2200m at Bendigo behind Promises Kept and looks primed this deep in his first campaign to salute at 2400m. He was held up for a run at a crucial point last time out and the way he run on suggested that he deserved to finish closer than what the 3.25-length margin suggests. This is no harder than the races he has been competing in recently. Michael Dee will have this son of Churchill settled midfield with cover, and when asked for an effort we expect Northern barrage to finish over the top of his rivals in the Listed Galilee Series Final.

Eagle Farm Race 1: #8 Headwall @ $2.40

The Matthew Smith-trained Headwall is yet to miss the placings at his first five starts, while winning three of those five starts. You could argue that this three-year-old gelding could very easily be undefeated, with both of his losses this preparation being by small margins. This son of Dream Ahead has jumped as the favourite at four of his five career starts, which indicates that he is a talented horse with plenty of admirers. After racing in New South Wales to start his career, he will race in Queensland for the first time on Saturday, with James Orman taking the reins from his usual rider, Blake Spriggs. With a fair amount of speed expected in this race, Orman should be able to settle this gelding midfield from barrier nine, and if he gets the breaks around the home turn, Headwall will be charging at the leaders in the final 100m and should prove too good.

Morphettville Race 6: #1 Chicago Storm @ $3.40

We butter up once again with the David Aldridge-trained Chicago Storm on Saturday afternoon. The four-year-old gelding has returned in fine style this campaign with two wins and two seconds to his name in four runs and with Sheridan Tomlinson sticking on board with his 3kg claim which gets this bloke in with 59.5kg on his back. He draws to gain a perfect run in transit from barrier two on the weekend and with a genuine speed influencer in Secret War drawn directly outside of him, Tomlinson will be able to stalk the leader throughout and with even luck on the home turn, look for Chicago Storm to amble up under a hold and sprint clear over the final furlong.

Ascot Race 5: #4 Snowdome @ $2.20

Snowdome was our best bet at Ascot last weekend, and we have no hesitation in making it our best bet again this Saturday, as the Neville Parnham-trained colt won by less than a length over 1000m. This son of Rommel will remain at 1000m this weekend as he moves up in grade from a Minimum 66 Handicap to an RTG 72+, but he drops 1kg for this next run. He has drawn the pole again after drawing barrier one and leading in his previous start, and Chris Parnham will ride this talented three-year-old for his third run this preparation. This event appears to have a lot of speed, but with this colt drawing barrier one, he can hold the fence and roll along with the leader or take the box seat if a couple want to go too fast early. Snowdome should be too good for this field, if Parnham keeps him settled and in his comfort zone, with his race fitness giving him an advantage over his main market rivals.
