This Sunday’s round nine clash between the Perth Wildcats and Adelaide 36ers at John Cain Arena will ultimately determine the winner of the NBL Cup.

Currently sitting on top of the NBL Cup ladder is the Perth Wildcats, who have won seven of their eight matches and are steaming home towards the inaugural trophy.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Adelaide 36ers have struggled immensely in Melbourne and have only won two matches, putting them on the very bottom of the table.

As the 36ers up-and-coming centre Isaac Humphries was recently sidelined with a foot injury, the team’s defence has gone down with him, as his rim protection has been sorely missed.

Given the Wildcats are starting to pull closer to Melbourne United in the regular season ladder, this is a must-win match, while the 36ers are still looking to jump into playoff contentions.

Bryce Cotton scores the ball better than anyone in the league, but he is also a defensive beast, sitting second in the competition for steals. Cotton’s defensive tenacity should slow down Adelaide’s young gun Josh Giddey.

The form guide points towards a victory for the men in red, as almost every statistic is in their favour and they’ve built a massive amount of momentum during the NBL Cup. Even though they basically have the Cup in their grasps, this victory will be the cherry on top that proves they are the real deal this season.
