NRL Round 16 odds and betting news
There are only four NRL matches on the cards this week as the NSW and Queensland squads muster for the third and final game of the 2019 State of Origin series.
With Souths and Canberra both resting up, Melbourne and Sydney will look to put some space between themselves and the rest of the competition.
Newcastle and Cronulla also have chances to bolster their respective positions within the eight, while Wests and St George Illawarra can vault into finals contention with upset wins.

St George Illawarra Dragons vs Melbourne Storm
St George Illawarra have steadied the ship with two wins in three games, but Thursday’s clash with the league leaders is a different kind of challenge altogether. The Dragons are paying $2.60 at home, while the Storm are slated at $1.48 after edging out Sydney last week.
Wests Tigers vs Sydney Roosters
Wins over North Queensland and South Sydney have put Wests back in business, while Sydney’s loss to Melbourne last weekend was their fourth reverse in five games. The Tigers are $2.30 outsiders on their own patch as the $1.60 Chooks welcome back Luke Keary and Jake Friend.
Newcastle Knights vs New Zealand Warriors
Newcastle’s big win over Brisbane was soured by the news that star fullback Kalyn Ponga will miss Origin III with a calf strain. The Knights are $1.67 favourites for Saturday’s clash with the NZ Warriors, who are offering $2.20 odds after their one-point loss to Penrith.
Cronulla Sharks vs Brisbane Broncos
Cronulla’s bid for a top-four finish took a massive hit on Sunday when they went down to Canterbury at ANZ Stadium. Nevertheless, the Sharks are $1.32 favourites to win at home this weekend, with Brisbane at long odds of $3.20 after losing both Richie Kennar and Anthony Milford to injury.
2019 NRL Premiership betting
Melbourne have firmed into $3.75 in the 2019 NRL outright odds at Sportsbet, yet Sydney ($3.30) have also shortened despite losing to the Storm in Adelaide. Souths ($6.50), Cronulla ($13) and Canberra ($17) have all eased out after disappointing losses in round 15, while Manly and Newcastle have both come in to $15.
