Australia’s premiere integrated resorts, Crown Resorts, has exclusively chosen the former Sands China and Marina Bay Sands executive, Mark McWhinnie, to be its new Chief Executive Officer.

The new CEO will also be successfully replacing Simon McGrath, Crown Sydney’s former CEO and the overseer of Australia’s first official VIP-only casino.

On the 4th of October, McWhinnie will officially be starting his role and undertaking multiple responsibilities as the new CEO of Crown Sydney. The newly ordained executive will be bringing more than 40 years of deep knowledge and experience to his new position, having worked in multiple regions including Australia, Japan, China, and the Pacific.

Also previously working as the Senior Vice President in Sands China in 2019, McWhinnie had worked in this leading establishment for over 13 years and was tasked with supervising operations conducted in eight resorts including The Venetian Macao and Sands Cotai Central (recently renamed as The Londoner Macao). As a result, he has been granted a LEED silver certificate award for his dedication and success.

The new CEO further brings highly welcomed Macao connections to the Crown company by previously working with former Wynn Macao COO as well as the newly appointed Crown Resorts Chief, Ciaran Carruthers.

McWhinne has been publicly welcomed into the company with hopes that his string of success in previous gaming establishments would add to the company’s growth and further attract more productivity and advancement.

“I’m delighted to have Mark on board to lead Crown Sydney. He is a global gaming and hospitality executive boasting an impressive track record founded on a strong culture and premium service. Mark’s appointment adds to the deep industry experience at Crown and is further testament to our ability to attract strong talent to our business,” Carruthers said.

McWhinne commented on the vast achievements and success Crown Resorts had accumulated over the years due to the dedication and talent of the leading company’s team of experts. He also pledged to be a part of the company’s growing success by becoming a leader that adapts to every complexity and provides solutions while also ensuring a phenomenal gaming experience to Crown consumers in different sectors globally.

“Crown Sydney is a world-class integrated resort and Crown has a reputation across the industry for premium service delivered by a team of talented and dedicated people. I want to build on that status and I am also determined to play my part in realizing our ambition to be a leader in the delivery of safe and responsible gaming,” said McWhinne.

“I have a strong understanding of the complexities of operating in a heavily regulated environment and will be prioritizing continued progress on the reform, remediation, and cultural transformation underway across the business, while delivering an exceptional experience for our customers.

“Sydney is the gateway to Australia and Crown Sydney has a significant role to play in fostering a re- emergence of activity across the hospitality and tourism sectors.”

Although Crown Resorts has been growing effortlessly recently, its recent takeover by Blackstone, the private equity firm, was a result of a major investigation conducted in 2019.

BlackStone had come to the rescue during Crown’s forceful dissociation of its board administration and protocols. BlackStone had made a deal with the company’s major stakeholders in May. The stakeholders accepted the $8.9 billion usurpation deal, which was completed in June.

In addition, the leading company has successfully inaugurated its exclusive VIP casino, which features amazing mahogany and crystal rooms and multiple Sky Salons at different levels. Players who want to be members of the exclusive casino will have to undergo proper checks and be part of Crown’s private guest program.
