Australian Open Day 2 betting odds, tips & predictions
Australian Open tennis has hit Melbourne and we are all for it, with the first round starting on Monday, January 20 and ending on Tuesday, January 21.
Some of the biggest names in tennis will be on display in Day Two, including tournament favourites Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev. Australian superstar Nick Kyrgios will also begin his campaign on the second day.
Below are our Australian Open betting predictions for Tuesday, with odds from BettingSite’s top-ranked tennis bookmakers.
Australian Open Day 2 Men’s betting tips
Rafael Nadal ($1.01 at Marantelli Bet) vs Hugo Dellien ($26 at Marantelli Bet)
Ranked number one in the world is Rafael Nadal, who leads the way with his powerful forehand, ferocious top-spin and tireless spirit. Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien will serve as a great warm-up for the robotic Nadal.
Nick Kyrgios ($1.10 at Marantelli Bet) vs Lorenzo Sonego ($5.80 at Marantelli Bet)
Even if you do not like Nick Kyrgios, you have to admit he is one of the most exciting players in world tennis. Kyrgios boasts one of the best serves on the ATP Tour, which is why he is favourite to lead the Australian Open in aces. Lorenzo Sonego is a decent young player, but he will not win a set against Kyrgios.
Daniil Medvedev ($1.05 at Marantelli Bet) vs Frances Tiafoe ($8 at Marantelli Bet)
If you did not know about the world number four before the ATP Cup, you would know about him now. Losing in the quarter-final to the eventual winner, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev was a force to be reckoned with. A small tantrum went viral as Daniil hit the umpire’s chair with his racquet multiple times, but Medvedev has a cool head in most matches and will easily advance to the second round.
Alexei Popyrin ($2.50 at Marantelli Bet) vs Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ($1.48 at Marantelli Bet)
A young Aussie from Sydney against one of France’s best modern-day players. Alexei Popyrin is a young up-and-comer that has just cracked the top 100 in the rankings at 94. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has entertained crowds with his explosive play for years and remains a fan favourite at 34 years of age. Will the twilight stage of Tsonga be good enough to beat Popyrin? We think so.
Damir Dzumhur ($5.50 at Marantelli Bet) vs Stan Wawrinka ($1.11 at Marantelli Bet)
Although he is past his prime, Stan Wawrinka still looms as a dangerous player in the Grand Slams. The Swiss star is still very capable at 34 years of age and reached two major quarterfinals in 2019, meaning he is not done yet. Damir Dzumhur is no slouch, but you can back in Stan with confidence here.
Australian Open Day 2 Women’s betting tips
Jennifer Brady ($2.75 at Marantelli Bet) vs Simona Halep ($1.40 at Marantelli Bet)
Simona Halep is ranked number four in the world and is coming off a brilliant 2019 campaign that included a maiden title at Wimbledon. At 28 years old, Halep is entering the peak of her tennis career. We think she will beat the 49th-ranked Jennifer Brady, who is entering only her third Australian Open and exited in the first round last year.
Elisabetta Cocciaretto ($3.40 at Marantelli Bet) vs Angelique Kerber ($1.27 at Marantelli Bet)
Italian tennager Elisabetta Cocciaretto makes her Grand Slam debut against Angelique Kerber, who won this tournament in 2016. The German veteran has won three different Grand Slams, with the French Open the only one to elude her so far. Kerber will give the debutante a tough first-round exit.
Donna Vekic ($1.64 at Marantelli Bet) vs Maria Sharapova ($2.15 at Marantelli Bet)
This is a battle between a young star on the rise and a fallen legend that is giving it one last crack. Maria Sharapova could easily play on and keep attending Australian Opens, but she has slowed down since her peak in 2012-15. Sharapova did make a quarterfinal in the French Open last year, but she may struggle as the outsider against world no.20 Donna Vekic.
