World Surf League reveals exciting 2024 Championship Tour lineup

WSL, Cloudbreak Fiji
World Surf League is set to return to Cloudbreak in Fiji during the 2024 CT season.

Surfing enthusiasts, mark your calendars for an exhilarating year ahead!

The World Surf League (WSL) has just unveiled the thrilling schedule for the 2024 Championship Tour (CT), and it’s making waves in the surfing community. This highly anticipated calendar features a fusion of men’s and women’s events, including nine regular-season contests, an exciting mid-season shakeup, and the epic WSL Finals.

One of the most exciting updates is the return of Fiji to the CT after a seven-year hiatus. Cloudbreak, Fiji, will play host to the final regular-season event from August 20 to 29, 2024. Known for its awe-inspiring left-hand barrels, Cloudbreak is sure to test the skills of the world’s best surfers.

But that’s not all! In 2024, surfing will make its triumphant return to the Olympic stage at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with 18 WSL qualified athletes set to compete. To prepare for this momentous occasion, Tahiti has been slotted into May, providing a captivating preview ahead of the Olympic Games.

The excitement doesn’t stop there. The WSL Finals, set to take place at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California, USA, from September 6 to 14, 2024, will see the top five male and female surfers battle it out in a one-day, winner-takes-all format. This event promises high-performance action at one of the world’s most renowned wave locations.

2024 WSL Championship Tour Schedule and Dates

The 2024 CT will kick off in January at Banzai Pipeline, Hawaii, and will include stops in iconic surf destinations such as Sunset Beach, Hawaii, Peniche, Portugal, and Bells Beach, Australia, before the mid-season cut in Margaret River, Australia.

In a strategic move, the WSL has added a break in July to allow qualified athletes to prepare for the Olympics in Tahiti, resulting in the omission of J-Bay and Surf Ranch events for this season. Tahiti’s competition has also been moved to May, making it the last chance to witness the world’s best surfers in action at Teahupo’o before the Olympics.

WSL Chief of Sport, Jessi Miley-Dyer, expressed excitement about the upcoming season, stating, “2024 is set to be a big year for surfing, and our schedule is designed to support that. We’re thrilled to bring Fiji back, and we’re confident it’s the perfect place to test our surfers as they battle for a spot in the WSL Final 5.”

Following the thrilling conclusion of the 2023 CT season, all eyes are on the surfers vying for a spot on the CT in 2024 through the WSL Challenger Series. The upcoming EDP Vissla Pro Ericeira and the Corona Saquarema Pro promise to be crucial events in determining who will join the elite ranks next season.
