Sydney off for Snitz despite Doomben win
Plans to chase the Anniversary Highway Handicap in Sydney have been shelved for Snitz despite strong win at Doomben on Saturday.
Snitz, the $1.55 favourite, made it two wins in a row when he cruised home to beat Meikas ($18) by 1-1/4 lengths in the Herron Todd White Handicap.
Trainer Matt Dunn had been keen to qualify Snitz for the $200,000 Highway race at Randwick on October 14 but has now abandoned those plans.
“He would have had to back up to qualify for the Highway final next week and he isn’t mature enough to do that,” Dunn said.
“We could have missed today but when it was obvious the race was going to fall away we had to come here for the first prize.”
Snitz, who has now won three races and $120,000 in prize money, has attracted international offers but Dunn said nothing had been finalised.
