The Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers will face off in a second consecutive Big Bash League Final this Friday night at Metricon Stadium.

History could be made this Friday if the Sydney Sixers come out on top, as it would be their third consecutive BBL title, which would be the first three-peat since the inception of the competition in 2011/12.

Only one other team has won back-to-back finals, and that team is the ultra-successful Perth Scorchers, who are aiming to win their fourth title.

The Scorchers and Sixers both sit on three titles, meaning the winner of this contest will become the outright all-time leader in Big Bash League championships.

Greg Shipperd’s Sixers were very impressive in their Challenger victory over the Adelaide Strikers, taking down the favourites without star batsmen Josh Philippe and Daniel Hughes.

Philippe has been the Sixers’ best batter all season, but he will be forced to sit out the decider after contracting COVID during the week.

There are no weak links in this Scorchers unit; Mitch Marsh, Kurtis Patterson, Josh Inglis and Colin Munro are all in great touch with the bat, while the core bowling unit of Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff and Ashton Agar could be considered their biggest strength.

Can the Sydney Sixers pull off another massive upset and win their third-straight BBL Final, or will the Perth Scorchers become the outright most successful team in league history?

To score 30+ runs: Hayden Kerr

The Sydney Sixers would not have made it to this final if not for Hayden Kerr’s efforts on Wednesday night, as he opened the batting in place of Josh Philippe and made 98 not out. Kerr has been a weapon with his bowling so far in BBL11, but that knock solidified his all-round credentials. Kerr displayed a cool head under pressure and showcased some genuine craft at the crease, so we think he will thrive for the Sixers on Friday night.

Perth Scorchers top bowler: Jhye Richardson

When the Scorchers beat the Sixers in The Qualifier earlier in the week, all four of Perth’s main bowlers took a pair of wickets, spreading the damage across the entire unit. Jhye Richardson was the most impressive of the lot, taking out Philippe and Moises Henriques, so we are backing him in to dominate once again.

Match result: Perth Scorchers

It is very hard to beat the Perth Scorchers when your team is at full strength, let alone when you are missing your best player. The loss of Philippe will be too much for the Sixers to handle on this occasion, as the Scorchers have the best bowlers in the league and will capitalise on this rare opportunity.
