Manuka Oval hosts the first BBL10 match of 2021 where the struggling Melbourne Renegades host the in-form Sydney Thunder on Friday night who are looking to solidify themselves as one of the teams to beat in BBL10 as we approach the halfway mark of the competition.

After a poor performance against the Thunder two matches ago, the Renegades will be looking to build on their heartbreaking loss against the Sydney Sixers on Tuesday night. The total of 168 that the Renegades had set looked to be enough, before a Jason Holder final over special, where he smashed 16 off the final over stole the victory from right underneath the Renegades’ nose. The Renegades were set up nicely by their experienced opening partnership of Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh, and the pair look crucial in getting the Renegades close to the Thunder this time around.

We’re not sure the Sydney Thunder could have been any more impressive when smashing the Melbourne Stars on Tuesday night when they set a club record high of 7/219 including the fastest ever Big Bash League half century hit by Alex Hales. The Englishman was ably supported by the likes of Usman Khawaja and Callum Ferguson at the top of the order, before some late hitting from Ben Cutting and Chris Green put the cream on top of the cake. They never looked in doubt when defending the big score, with the spin duo of Chris Green and Tanveer Sangha taking 6/61 between them from their eight overs. Based on recent form, the men in green look extremely hard to beat on Friday night.

Back on Boxing Day, the Sydney Thunder embarrassed the Melbourne Renegades when they rolled their opposition for just 80 after setting them 209 to chase. The win was set up perfectly by young Oliver Davies who hit a quickfire 48 off 23 balls including a sequence that saw him hit five sixes in a row if you don’t mind! Tanveer Sangha proved a nightmare for Renegades batsmen with a match winning spell of 4/14 off 3.2 overs and was duly supported by his fellow bowlers.
