Paris 2024: Grace Brown claims first gold for Australia
Having claimed Commonwealth Games gold in 2022, Grace Brown has added Olympic gold in Paris in the Women’s Individual Time Trial.
The result is Australia’s first gold medal at these Paris Olympics, along with the first gold medal ever achieved in the Women’s Time Trial.
Brown, aged 32, came fourth in the same event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but there was to be no denying her in the French Capital on Day 1 of the 33rd Olympiad.
In horrible conditions that saw plenty of her rivals crash, Brown remained upright as she made her way around the 32.4km course in a time of 39.38.24.
Having started as a long-distance runner, Brown suffered serious stress fractures early in her career and was pushed into cycling.
These decisions became life-changing on Saturday as Grace Brown forever etched herself in Australian Olympic history.
