NRL Round 23 betting news and premiership odds
All of a sudden, there is a whiff of competition at the top end of the 2019 NRL Premiership ladder.
Melbourne are still two games clear at the summit, but every other spot in the top eight is up for grabs in the last three rounds of the regular season.
Let’s take a look at the matchups and the latest odds for NRL Round 22 at Sportsbet.com.au.
Parramatta Eels vs Canterbury Bulldogs
Parra all but guaranteed a spot in the NRL finals with their win over the Gold Coast, while Canterbury are now a remote chance for the eight after downing South Sydney. The Eels are $1.32 for a routine win at home, giving the Bulldogs $3.30 to claim yet another scalp. See our Eels vs Bulldogs preview here.
North Queensland Cowboys vs Penrith Panthers
Penrith are one of several teams fighting over the bottom two places in the final eight, so they cannot afford to lose to North Queensland this week. The Panthers are slight favourites at $1.72, leaving the Cowboys with $2.10 on their own patch.
Brisbane Broncos vs South Sydney Rabbitohs
Brisbane took a big step towards finals with their win over Penrith last time out, while Souths slipped out of the top four after losing to the Dogs. The Bunnies are $1.80 to win on the road despite a poor run of form, which gives the Broncos $2 odds at Suncorp Stadium. See our Broncos vs Rabbitohs preview here.
Cronulla Sharks vs New Zealand Warriors
Cronulla climbed back into the top eight with last week’s win over St George Illawarra, but NZ are a long way back after their heavy defeat to Sydney. The Sharks are $1.40 to get it done at home, with the Warriors paying $2.94 to spring an upset. See our Sharks vs Warriors preview here.
Wests Tigers vs Newcastle Knights
This is a do-or-die affair between two teams on the outer fringe of the finals fight. Newcastle are $1.76 favourites after a season-saving win over the Cowboys, while Wests are $2.05 at home following their defeat to Manly.
St George Illawarra Dragons vs Sydney Roosters
St George Illawarra’s season is done, but Sydney could yet finish top of the ladder if they win all of their remaining games and Melbourne drop a couple. The Dragons are $4.15 long shots and the Roosters are $1.22 in one of the easier picks of the round.
Melbourne Storm vs Gold Coast Titans
Melbourne will be fuming with Saturday’s loss, which is bad news for a Gold Coast side that cannot wait for this season to finish. The Storm boast the shortest match odds of the week at $1.10, leaving the Titans with $6.50 against the league leaders.
Canberra Raiders vs Manly Sea Eagles
Canberra came from 18-0 down to stun the Storm and now face another top-four test in Manly, who overtook Souths with their win against the Tigers last Thursday. The Raiders are paying $1.53 at home, giving the in-form Sea Eagles $2.45 to conquer the capital.
2019 NRL Premiership betting update
The Roosters firm to $2.70 and the Storm ease out to $3.40, while the Raiders take outright ownership of the third line at $7.50. Souths are out to double figures for the first time this year at $13, while the $19 Eels round out the top six. It will be interesting to see what happens to the Bulldogs ($1,001) if they win again this week.
