Australia's best betting sites

New Zealand online betting sites

New Zealand has a huge range of betting sites offering major and minor sporting events. Most of the bookies Kiwi punters wager with are licensed in Australia and have strong reputations. While the topic of wagering online has been before our parliament for many years, it is 100 per cent legal for New Zealanders to wager on the Internet in 2017.

The following sites are ones we personally have wagered at and can vouch for their safety. Each of these is licensed by an Australian jurisdiction and must abide by strict rules:

New Zealand betting laws

There’s always confusion no matter where you are located when it comes to the legality of online betting.

Internet betting in New Zealand is overseen by the New Zealand Racing Board. It provides racing and sporting markets through the TAB. But international online sportsbooks also accept New Zealanders as they operate under the Gambling Act 2003. The Act says it isn’t explicitly prohibited or explicitly illegal to have a punt at overseas betting sites.

Many of these sites operate in Australia, where the legal landscape is quite similar making it perfectly legal and safe to have a punt at the online bookmakers we detail below.

Best NZ online betting sites

There’s a number of secure Internet betting sites for Kiwis. We have rounded the best up below.

BetEasy

BetEasy is one of the best online bookmakers for Kiwis, especially when it comes to the easy to navigate layout and the multitude of features. While it is based in Australia, the NZD is available.

BetEasy is the official partner of the Australian Football League, so you can find a wide range of associated betting markets.

There’s also an array of other sporting options including rugby league, horse racing, and greyhound racing in New Zealand and Australia. Internationally, you can find American football, basketball, tennis and more.

You can open account with BetEasy on your desktop computer, or on smartphone or tablet. Try the BetEasy app here.

If you have any issues you can contact BetEasy on the NZ line by calling 0800 238 399 or email [email protected]. There’s also live chat available between 10:00 am to 2:00 am (NZST) Monday to Saturday and between 10:00 am and 1:00 am (NZST) on Sunday.

Sportsbet

Sportsbet offers a variety of currencies including the NZD which makes betting online a lot easier. While the bookmaker is owned by Paddy Power, which is based in Ireland, it is licensed in the Northern Territory, Australia.

Many New Zealanders are always on their phones now and Sportsbet makes betting on the go easy with their app. You can download it to your Apple iPhone or iPad or your Android device. Try the Sportsbet app here.

You can bet on the AFL, NRL, cricket, golf, ice hockey, and even e-Sports at Sportsbet, as well as have a flutter on a range of horse racing and greyhound events in Australia and NZ.

Punters can enjoy sports betting markets for golf, rugby, tennis, football, cricket, and more, as well as horse racing and greyhound racing. If you’re a fan of the latter, we recommend Bet365 since the site makes fixed odds available 24 hours prior to the advertised starting time.

There’s a lot of extra features to the bookmaker – especially when you download the app. There’s a feature known as the Quick Bet feature which speeds up the betting process. All it takes is a few taps and a set stake limit to bet on your smartphone or tablet.

A live chat is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for punters or you can call +44 1782 684 612 to talk to someone in person.

Horse racing, harness racing and the greyhounds in New Zealand

New Zealand is mad for everything horse related. Both horse and harness racing happen on a daily basis in New Zealand. Some of the biggest race tracks in New Zealand include the famous Ellerslie, based just outside of Auckland, while Canterbury and Christchurch both have highly rated racing regularly.

While harness racing has decreased in popularity in Australia, New Zealand still has a proud tradition in the trots. The Inter Dominion is raced in Australia and New Zealand and has been heavily dominated by Kiwi horses in recent years.

All racing codes in New Zealand, thoroughbreds, harness racing and greyhounds can be wagered on at the Australian-based bookies we promote on this site. You can legally and safely wager at these sites from New Zealand.
