Melbourne Renegades vs Hobart Hurricanes BBL13 preview
The Big Bash season continues on Thursday night as the Melbourne Renegades host the Hobart Hurricanes in a must-win clash.
The Melbourne Renegades continued their poor season on Tuesday as they went down to the Melbourne Stars by eight wickets in a rain-affected clash. This leaves the Renegades last in the standings, with their season effectively over. The Renegades are also facing problems with selection as international imports Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Joe Clarke are unavailable, whilst they may need to recall omitted captain Nic Maddinson. Despite the abundance of quality in their squad, the Renegades just haven’t been able to make it work so far.
Similarly, the Hobart Hurricanes have also not had the best start to the tournament, but after a crucial seven-wicket win in their last match against the Thunder, they are still in the picture to push for a finals position. They are heavily reliant on their top three for runs, but they still have the explosive lower-order hitting to keep them in the game in case of early wickets. However, there are concerns over their bowling quality, after they have used just six bowlers in their past three matches and their top wicket taker Nathan Ellis has just five wickets this season.

Hurricanes top runscorer — Ben McDermott
Melbourne Renegades vs Hobart Hurricanes betting predictions
In a season that has gone from bad to worse for the Renegades, it is hard to see them turning their season around now after they are being forced into more changes at the selection table. The Hurricanes have won eight of the last ten matches between the sides, and with their finals hopes still alive, they should be too strong at $1.80 at Bet365.
One of the few bright spots this season for the Melbourne Renegades has been the development of young batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk. Fraser-McGurk, the leading run scorer for the Renegades, also leads the BBL in sixes and has the highest strike rate of any batsman that has scored over 50 runs. After he missed out on their match against the Stars, look for Fraser-McGurk to make the most of the unimpressive Hurricanes bowling attack. We like Fraser-McGurk to lead the Renegades as their top run scorer at $4.50 with top cricket bookmakers.
Returning to form with a match-winning 53* against the Thunder, Hurricanes batsman Ben McDermott looked back to his damaging best. Traditionally an opener, McDermott has been dropped down to number four this season to bolster the middle order. One of the best batsmen of recent times in the BBL, McDermott hits to all parts of the ground, and in the event of early wickets, expect him to spend plenty of time at the crease. We think he shows great value to lead the Hurricanes at $4.50 with top online bookmakers.
