Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanese BBL13 preview

The Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes will play their last match of the Big Bash League season on Monday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The Hurricanes will need to snap a three-match losing streak to give themselves a chance to play in the BBL finals. Their last match against the Strikers in Hobart was an embarrassing 8-wicket loss after Jake Weatherald belted 80 runs from just 32 balls. For the Hurricanes to have any hope of winning their final match and ascending the BBL ladder, stronger contributions will need to come from their top-order batters.

The Stars have also found themselves in a rut of poor form having lost their last two matches to the Sixers and Renegades in Melbourne. Their loss to the Sixers came from a brilliant batting performance by opener James Vince before Shaun Marsh and West Indian Akeal Hosein led the Renegades to a win in Aaron Finch’s final match in the BBL. Stronger performances from World Cup hero Glenn Maxwell and fellow star Marcus Stoinis are required if the Stars are to end an inconsistent season on a high.

Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes betting predictions

The Hurricanes are still struggling to win matches outside of Tasmania, after losing 12 of their last 13 away. These two sides met earlier in the season on December 28 when rain shortened the match, Glenn Maxwell opened the batting and belted five sixes to chase down the DLS target of 67 inside seven overs. The Stars have won three of their last five matches against the Hurricanes and at $1.70 with top cricket bookmakers is the best bet to secure another victory.

Maxwell’s form throughout the BBL13 competition has been phenomenal, scoring 211 runs at an average of 35. He can score and hit sixes all around the ground, particularly at the MCG where he has scored 30+ runs in his last four matches. $1.70 is a safe bet for Maxwell to continue his strong form at his home ground and score 25+ runs on Monday.

Although Hurricanes quick Riley Meredith has struggled with injury this season, he has a strong history against the Stars, taking 2+ wickets in each of his last five matches against them. Meredith can swing the ball early with incredible pace and bounce which lures batters into play incorrect shots. If Meredith is anywhere near his best, $3 to take 2+ wickets in this match is a great value bet.
