Chris Munce new Queensland ATA President

Trainer Chris Munce
Chris Munce is the new Queensland president of the Australian Trainers’ Association.

Chris Munce will make increasing membership numbers a priority after taking over as president of the Queensland branch of the Australian Trainers’ Association.

The winner of 43 Group One races as a jockey, Munce has already had 97 winners since taking out his trainer’s licence in January, 2015.

He takes over from veteran trainer Barry Baldwin who has been state president for the past four years.

“Barry will still be involved but he just wants to take a step back. He did a very good job with the position and I hope to build on his work,” Munce said.

He said the numbers of trainers in the ATA had dropped off due to a combination of factors.

“It will be one of the first things I will look at in boosting numbers. I also hope to speak to key players across the state and get a list of priorities,” Munce said.

“One of them is Work Cover which really needs to be sorted out.”

Munce said he hoped to take a leaf out of the book of the jockeys’ association which was a powerful body.

“The jockeys have been pretty well united and that gives them a real voice. We need to do the same,” Munce said.
