Australia vs England T20 World Cup match preview
The 2024 ICC T20 World Cup rolls on this weekend, as global cricket heavyweights Australia and England face off in Barbados for their group stage clash.
The Aussies enter this match as slight favourites for this clash at -136.99, while the English are at +110 with Bet365.
In their opening match, Australia got off to a strong start as they beat minnows Oman by 39 runs. Led by David Warner (56) and Marcus Stoinis (67*), the Aussies put 164 on the board before an excellent team bowling effort kept the opposition well short.
Known for their performances at big tournaments, top cricket bookmakers have faith in Andrew McDonald’s side to go the distance in this tournament, with the second-best odds at +250 to lift the trophy.
After a solid start there shouldn’t be too many changes to the side, but fast bowler Pat Cummins is expected to return after being rested for the first game in place of Nathan Ellis.
Unfortunately for England, their opening match against Scotland was abandoned, leaving the points split between the sides. However, the English were able to bowl 10 overs, where they conceded 90 runs and were unable to take a wicket.
As the defending champions, England’s hopes for the tournament should also be high. With an explosive batting line-up paired with express pace and three spin options, they are right in the mix at +400 with top online bookmakers.
Don’t expect any changes for England in this clash after their rained-out game. Although, fast bowler Chris Jordan struggled, which may see Sam Curran or Reece Topley potentially included.

Australia vs England T20 World Cup Picks
In a match between cricket’s oldest rivals, there is plenty of quality on both sides to win this. However, Australia enters as the in-form side, given they have won five of their six matches in 2024, whereas England have barely had a game, with just two completed T20Is this year. With a clear advantage in the bowling lineup, expect the Aussies to be too strong as favourites, so back them to secure the win at -136.99 with Neds.
Coming off an incredibly successful IPL campaign, Australian opening batsmen Travis Head will be disappointed after he scored just 12 against Oman. With the express pace of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood opening the bowling for England, expect the South Australian to score his runs quickly as he makes the most of batting powerplay. He has continuously stood out in big games, so back Head to score 30 or more runs at +125 with PlayUp.
As the primary spinner in the England side, Adil Rashid presents as a challenge for the Australian batsmen through the middle overs. With batsmen such as Mitch Marsh, Marcus Stoinis and Tim David all known for their struggles against spin, the 36-year-old leg-spinner presents a challenge to get away. Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa impressed with 2-24 on Thursday, so back Rashid to cause some problems with two or more wickets at +162 with Dabble.
