Picking a winner for the 2021 AFLW Premiership gets tougher every week, and round seven’s action made the task even more difficult. Two big upsets and one massive comeback have forced online bookmakers to tighten things up at the top of the outright betting market, while round eight’s batch of games could cause even more havoc.

Gold Coast Suns $9.50 vs Carlton Blues $1.05
Despite sitting two wins out of the top six with two weeks remaining, the Blues are hopeful they can still slip into the finals, but they need to win and win big. If certain matches go in Carlton’s favour, the only thing keeping the club out of the finals could be percentage, and given the Suns are still without a win, this is a perfect opportunity for the Blues to make a late charge.

Geelong Cats $5.50 vs GWS Giants $1.14
The Cats are one of two teams without a victory in 2021, and this contest looms as another loss for Geelong. The Giants looked very strong in the wet last week as they sprung an upset against the Saints. The Cats are waiting for the season to end, as their injuries have taken a big toll, so this looks like a comfortable win to GWS.

Collingwood Magpies $1.03 vs St Kilda Saints $11.50
The Saints suffered more injuries against GWS last week and could be without a few key players, while the Magpies will look to get back on the winners’ list and get their momentum back. The Pies’ midfield will be much stronger than the Saints’, feeding a hungry group of forwards who all want to redeem themselves after their first loss of the season. Chloe Molloy could kick a big bag if the Pies are switched on.

Brisbane Lions $1.66 vs North Melbourne Kangaroos $2.18
The Lions start as favourites on the back of a brilliant win over the Magpies, but the Roos are not to be underestimated. The well-drilled North Melbourne back six have the capacity to match the tall Brisbane forwards, while a dynamic Kangaroos forward line has the firepower to overcome the Lions defenders. We think the Roos will cause an upset in front of a good crowd at the Gabba.

Richmond Tigers $1.30 vs West Coast Eagles $3.45
The Tigers and Eagles have improved tremendously since last year, as both sides already have two victories this season. Ellie McKenzie has been a revelation for Richmond this season, bringing some run-and-carry and class to the midfield. The Tigers have been pushing the best teams lately and should run rampant against West Coast this Sunday.

Adelaide Crows $1.32 vs Western Bulldogs $3.30
The final two matches for Sunday’s triple-header are both crucial, starting with the Crows and Bulldogs at Norwood Oval. The Doggies are still hoping for a finals spot, while the Crows need to get a win after a horrid performance against the Demons. The Bulldogs are one of the few teams who can match Adelaide in the midfield, but their backline may fall short against the dynamic duo of Chelsea Randall and Erin Phillips.

Fremantle Dockers $1.39 vs Melbourne Demons $2.93
The Dockers narrowly got over the line against the Blues last round, while the Demons looked fantastic in their upset win over the Crows after drifting to $3.30 with AFLW bookmakers before the first bounce. Eden Zanker is having a huge impact with her big frame in the midfield, while Daisy Pearce is causing real headaches for the opposition in the forward half. The Dockers feel vulnerable after their slim win over the Blues, and we think the Dees can punish them this Sunday.

AFLW 2021 Premiership betting update – Tuesday, March 16

With two rounds remaining in the 2021 AFLW home-and-away season, the top six look set in stone. The Dockers have come into favouritism at $4 after a thrilling comeback victory over Carlton, while last week’s leader, Adelaide, has fallen from $4 to $5 following the loss to Melbourne at Casey Fields. The Lions took away Collingwood’s undefeated tag in a windy match at Whitten Oval, putting both clubs to $5. Outside the top five, the Dees are the big smokey at $10.
