AFLW Round 3 odds, betting tips & market news

Women's AFL

Round three of the AFLW 2021 fixture promises to be the most exciting yet, filled with mouth-watering matchups and plenty of upset opportunities.

Only two rounds of the AFLW home-and-away season have passed and we already have a clear divide between the best and worst teams.

This upcoming round was hand-crafted by the AFLW officials to see the best teams against each other and give the bottom sides a chance to get their first wins.

Let’s take a look at the AFLW 2021 round three matches and the latest premiership markets, with all odds supplied by Sportsbet.com.au.

AFLW Round 3 betting preview and predictions

Geelong Cats vs Western Bulldogs
After impressing in both of their Friday night matches to date, the Western Bulldogs head down to GMHBA Stadium this week to take on Geelong. The Cats still have not registered a win this season, but they looked very competitive against the Magpies early in round two. The Bulldogs should get their second win of the season as the Cats are still missing some key components.

GWS Giants vs Gold Coast Suns
The Giants are early favourites for this clash in Blacktown. The Suns set an unfortunate record last week with the lowest score in AFLW history, scoring just two behinds against the Brisbane Lions. We expect the $1.50 Giants will trample over the Suns, whose odds are too short at $2.55. Alyce Parker is a superstar of the competition and continues to grow in her third season with GWS.

St Kilda Saints vs Carlton Blues
One of the real eye-catchers in round three will be this clash between the Saints and Blues. The AFLW community expects the Blues to bounce back after losing their opening two matches despite starting favourites, but we think the Saints are a genuine chance at $2.50. The Blues have been underwhelming this season and are yet to play good footy, but they’ll still start at $1.50.

Melbourne Demons vs North Melbourne Kangaroos
Saturday’s final match will be a ripping contest between the unbeaten Demons and Kangaroos at Casey Fields. The $3.25 Dees were the only team to beat the $1.33 Roos last season, and they could get another win over the competition favourites here. Even though the Demons have the wood over North, we expect the visitors to win this contest and remain undefeated for another week.

Adelaide Crows vs Fremantle Dockers
Sunday’s footy starts with a humungous match between the Crows and Dockers, who are two of the top three contenders in the competition. The Dockers have not lost a match since 2019, but they will start at $2.10 against the $1.72 Crows. Freo will travel outside WA, where the online bookmakers are tipping them to lose, but we think they will knock off Adelaide on this occasion.

Brisbane Lions vs Collingwood Magpies
In our eyes there is no bigger game in round three than this contest between the Lions and Magpies. These two teams are the dark horses of the competition behind the main contenders, but they should not be underestimated. The Lions have the short odds at $1.65, but we will back in the $2.20 Magpies this Sunday. Brisbane have smashed two of the weakest teams in the competition, while the Magpies overcame the Blues in round one and were strong against the Cats last week.

Richmond Tigers vs West Coast Eagles
You can call this match the battle of the battlers. Richmond is searching for its firs-ever victory, while the Eagles are looking for their second. This game could go either way, as the $2.03 Tigers have more than enough experienced players, but the $1.77 Eagles almost beat Fremantle last week. We think the Tigers will break their drought as the Eagles are missing midfield star Dana Hooker.

2021 AFLW Premiership market update

The biggest movers at the completion of round two were the Carlton Blues and Western Bulldogs. Since the Bulldogs’ win over the Blues was the only upset of the round, they quickly rose up market to $34 from $81, while the girls from Ikon Park have fallen outside the top six contenders at $15. The Crows are still climbing after another solid victory to their 2021 campaign, while the Lions and Demons are not far behind them.
