AFLW Round 2 betting odds, market moves & predictions

Women's AFL

A successful first round of AFLW action has boosted the anticipation and excitement for the women’s competition, but the joy of returning to the field was put on hold for a handful of teams.

The strict five-day lockdown imposed in Western Australia means four AFLW teams will not play in round two, with the West Coast Eagles, Fremantle Dockers, GWS Giants and Adelaide Crows having their games postponed.

Here is a look at what is to come in the upcoming round of AFLW, with odds courtesy of Sportsbet.com.au.

AFLW Round 2 betting preview and predictions

Western Bulldogs vs Carlton Blues
Both these sides will be eager to play, as they both lost narrowly in round one. Despite playing a very good game against the Saints, the Bulldogs will start at $2.94 against the stronger Blues, who are favourites at $1.39. We like the +12.5 line for the Bulldogs here and think they could even win it.

Collingwood Magpies vs Gold Coast Suns
Although the Suns scored more points than the Magpies did in round one, they will still start behind at $3.50 as the $1.29 Magpies look to make it two from two to start the season. Chloe Molloy is a major threat up forward for Collingwood, and the Suns will struggle to keep her quiet.

Melbourne Demons vs Richmond Tigers
The most lopsided odds in round two belong to the Demons and Tigers. The Richmond girls are yet to register a victory since joining the competition in 2020, and we do not think they can get it this week as $5.50 outsiders. A combination of talented midfielders makes the $1.14 Demons a threat every week, and they should look for percentage against the Tigers in this match.

North Melbourne Kangaroos vs St Kilda Saints
This will be the only match in round two between a pair of winners from last week, but the Roos and Saints are not on the same level. At $1.28 with leading AFLW betting sites, the Roos should get the chocolates in this contest, as they move the ball well across the field and can abuse individual matchups. While the $3.60 Saints boast a handful of brilliant players, team footy normally wins out.

Brisbane Lions vs Geelong Cats
The Cats were embarrassed in their round one match, only hitting the scoreboard in the final quarter, and they are against the odds again this week as $3.95 long shots. The Lions are short-priced favourites at $1.24, but they didn’t show enough killer instinct against the Tigers to convince us they are the real deal. We expect Brisbane to win, but Geelong won’t go down as easily this week.

AFLW Premiership market update

There is one club that everyone has their eyes on after the opening round, and that’s the Adelaide Crows, who have dropped from $12 to $7 after a big win over the Eagles. With Erin Phillips back to something like her best, the Crows look destined to feature at the pointy end of the season. The Magpies have also come in slightly after upsetting the Blues, while the Saints made their own surge from $67 to $26.
