AFL Grand Final 2020 betting odds & market update

Latest AFL odds

Online bookmakers have paid out on most footy futures markets, but there’s still a few popular AFL 2020 betting options available as we approach the biggest weekend of the season. Let’s see how the odds are shaping up at Sportsbet.com.au.

Will the Tigers make it three premierships in four seasons?

The obvious market is the 2020 AFL Premiership winner, where only the Richmond Tigers and Geelong Cats remain.

Damian Hardwick’s Tigers were flag favourites for a fair chunk of the season, as the reigning premiers kept finding a way to win matches despite missing key players such as Shane Edwards and Bachar Houli for long periods.

They started the finals at $3.25 in the outright betting, but the loss to the Brisbane Lions in week one saw them ease out to $4.50. An excellent match against the Saints boosted them back up to $4 before the preliminary final, leading them to their current $1.80 quote.

The Cats went on a similar journey through the finals series, but with better odds. They started at $5.50, blew out to $9 after the loss to Port Adelaide, bounced back to $4.50 with the win over Collingwood, then thumped Brisbane to enter the big dance as $2.10 outsiders.

It won’t be easy to pick the 2020 AFL Grand Final winner, but we prefer the odds for the Cats.

Duncan leads way in 2020 AFL Finals disposals betting

Coming into the final match of the 2020 AFL Finals Series, Mitch Duncan has a seven-disposal head start on the next best competitor, giving him the shortest odds of the market.

Dustin Martin has won two Norm Smith Medals in his two AFL Grand Final appearances, where he has collected 29 and 22 disposals, so he looms as the biggest threat at $5.

We also like the $6 odds for Bachar Houli, as he amassed 32 disposals against the Saints and could be damaging off half-back.

The next few Geelong midfielders are too far behind Duncan to be considered genuine chances, but you never know what Patrick Dangerfield will produce on Grand Final Day.

Cats stars on track for most 2020 AFL Finals goals

Geelong’s All-Australian duo of Tom Hawkins and Patrick Dangerfield are the clear favourites to finish with the most goals in the 2020 AFL Finals Series.

Unless you expect one of the Richmond forwards to kick over three goals on what could be a wet night in Brisbane, taking the short odds for Danger or Hawkins is the play.

Given Richmond’s ability to get a third man to every one-on-one contest, Hawkins’ strength could be less damaging than usual – especially if the forecasted rain hits.

On the other hand, Dangerfield’s explosive speed and footy nous make him a constant threat when he ventures into Geelong’s forward 50.

We expect both players to hit the scoreboard, so Hawkins’ one-goal lead in the standings could prove decisive in the end.
