2019 NRL Round 12 betting tips – Panthers vs Sea Eagles
Penrith Panthers – $1.90 at Sportsbet
Manly Sea Eagles – $1.90
Australia’s best NRL bookies cannot split Penrith and Manly after both sides defied expectations in round 11.
The Panthers leapt off the bottom of the ladder with a surprise win over Parramatta, while the Sea Eagles suffered a heavy home defeat to Gold Coast.
Making things even harder for the oddsmakers is State of Origin 2019, which has left both squads a little light ahead of next week’s series opener in Brisbane.
Penrith Panthers team news
Nathan Cleary’s controversial selection for the NSW Blues sees James Maloney don the no.7 after returning from suspension, with Jarome Luai staying on at five-eighth. Waqa Blake and Dean Whare are both injured, so Brent Naden and Isaah Yeo will fill out the centres.
Out: Waqa Blake (knee), Nathan Cleary (Origin), Dean Whare (hamstring)
In: James Maloney, Brent Naden, Isaah Yeo
Manly Sea Eagles team news
The second-string halves pairing of Cade Cust and Kane Elgey continues in the absence of Daly Cherry-Evans, who is set to skipper Queensland next week. Joel Thompson is named to start for NSW rep Jake Trbojevic, while Abbas Miski comes in for the injured Brad Parker. Taniela Paseka completes the bench.

Panthers vs Sea Eagles try scorer betting

Isaah Yeo
First tryscorer – $15
Anytime tryscorer – $3.50
Two or more tries – $19
There is not a single player in the Panthers squad with any real form under the posts, so you might as well look for some value. Tim Grant was Penrith’s first tryscorer last week, and at much longer odds than Yeo is paying.
Jorge Taufua
First tryscorer – $9.50
Anytime tryscorer – $2.20
Two or more tries – $7.50
Compared to the options on the other side, Taufua looks like a shoo-in. The Canberra native has popped up on a regular basis this season and found the line last week in the loss to the Titans, so the form is solid.
Penrith vs Manly stats and trends
- Penrith’s win over Parramatta brought an end to a six-game losing streak
- James Maloney leads the league for penalties conceded (13) and missed tackles (56)
- Manly have won two and lost two as the away team so far this season
- Sea Eagles absentee Jake Trbojevic ranks fifth in the NRL for tackles with 457
Panthers vs Sea Eagles betting predictions
It is that time year when NRL tipping becomes a nightmare for punters.
Both teams are missing star players in key positions, but a few of them – the halfbacks, for example – cancel each other out.
Manly have made do with diminished resources all year, so they might be a little more accustomed to punching above their weight.
The injuries to Blake and Whare have come at an awful time for Penrith, who may have sniffed an opportunity to get their season back on track.
Look for the Sea Eagles to win a scrappy, error-strewn affair by the odd try or so.
