The Manly Sea Eagles and Wests Tigers travel south to the Campbelltown Sports Stadium to kick off Sunday afternoon football with plenty on the line for both clubs.
If results swing their way, the Sea Eagles are looking to win their way back into the NRL top eight. While the Tigers, after a lot of talk, have sacked their coach, meaning the players will need to justify the club’s decision and respond under new coach Brett Kimmorley.
Sea Eagles halfback and captain Daly Cherry-Evans will return fresh from a State of Origin win with Queensland, while the Tigers receive a boost with David Nofoaluma and tackling machine Alex Twal back into the side.
The Sea Eagles have won 19 of the 33 clashes with the Tigers, including their last two by a whopping 80-46. What’s even more alarming for the Tigers is their only win in recent weeks has come against a poor Bulldogs side, and even that was not the least bit convincing. Manly have been by no means convincing either, however tides may be turning after their dominant win over the Warriors. Manly are the safe bet in this game to win by 13+, paying $2.65 with Australian bookmakers.
Manly finally started to click into gear last week against the Warriors when they made try scoring look easy. Fullback Reuben Garrick scored two tries and could have scored more. He’s a chance to cross the line for a double again this week, and a great value bet at $7.25. Garrick won’t be the only one as devastating back rower Haumole Olakau’atu and flyer Jason Saab will be looking for a meat pie each again. Paying $2.90 and $1.91 respectively, they’re must haves in this game.
These two clubs have a history of high-scoring matches, as well as displaying a trend of poor defensive efforts at times during this season. With a fast-dry track expected for Sunday’s match, point scoring should not be difficult. Alternate total points markets are the place to look where you can get $2.10 for the game to go over a total of 44.5 points, something well and truly within reach of these two clubs.
Manly v Wests key matchup: Ofahengue v Trbojevic
The clash of these two looks will be a good one to watch, given the size and skill of both players with State of Origin experience. Trbojevic will be looking to prove to NSW selectors he deserves to be back in the side and will be able to prove with worth through his work ethic with the ball, and adaptability in attack. At one point in the game, Trbojevic was one of the best ball playing locks in the NRL, while Ofahengue has shown a similar ability in recent weeks for the Tigers. Defence will be just as important between these two, and their work rate will give team mates time and space to play expansive football and lift their side towards a win.
