Steven Avery still the bookies favourite to remain a murderer

NETFLIX documentary Making a Murderer continues to dominate the headlines and the opportunistic folk at Sportsbet.com.au once again has struck while the iron remains hot.

One of the doco’s main protagonists, Brendan Dassey, is set to be released from prison, and Sportsbet has decided to open a number of markets around the series’ other key figure, Steven Avery.

Punters can bet on how much of a payout Dassey will get from the government after the 27-year-old was locked up unjustly.

A payout of $1 million or less is the early favourite at the $2.75 quote.

Dassey may be about to see the light of day after a long period behind bars, but Sportsbet do not believe Steven Avery will join his nephew outside of prison after setting a $1.35 price on the 54-year-old to remain behind bars until the end of 2017.

Ambitious punters can get a $3 return if they think he will be exonerated before the end of next year.

Another market that is drawing a lot of heat is where the first Dassey interview will take place.

Current affairs program 60 Minutes is the current $2 favourite to secure the coveted interview, while talk show hosts Oprah ($3) and Ellen ($7.50) are both in single figures.

Aussie television stalwart Karl Stafanovic is also in the market, but at a triple figure price.

Sportsbet.com.au representative Will Byrne said the company’s odds on an Avery exoneration reflected the likelihood of the situation unfolding.

“It’s massive news that Brendan has been released with many Making a Murderer fans feeling like justice has been done, but the odds are not in Avery’s favour of following him out that exit door anytime soon,” Byrne said.
