Saturday Slingshot: Horse racing best bets for September 17, 2022
The Saturday Slingshot presented by Bettingsite.com.au is here and it brings you the best bets for horse racing in Australia on Saturday, September 17, 2022 to help you launch into a winning weekend on the punt.
All odds are provided by leading online bookmakers recommended by Bettingsite.com.au
Randwick Race 8: #1 Nature Strip @ $2.25
The best sprinter on the turf Nature Strip, returns from his Royal Ascot sojourn and looks a clear best bet of the day if he is at his best. Having beaten a similar field like this in last year’s Everest, the now eight-year-old showed no signs of slowing down in his romp at Royal Ascot. He was rolled in this race last year by his old sparring partner Eduardo, but Nature Strip looks the one to be with in this ‘Mini Everest’. Barrier two is an ideal draw for James McDonald and the Strip and if they can hold out Eduardo early on, many may be counting the cash within the first furlong. He’s the best sprinter in the world, Nature Strip is simply our best bet of the day.
Caulfield Race 8: #4 Chain Of Lightning @ $2.60
Our best bet of the day is due to step out in the Group 3 How Now Stakes, with the Peter Moody-trained Chain Of Lightning looking to take her record to an impressive six wins from six starts. She deadset smashed her rivals in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes when beating home She’s All Class and subsequent Flemington winner, Kissonallforcheeks. She continually steps up the mark and, in all fairness, this race is no harder than her last start triumph. The Fighting Sun mare will need a touch of luck from barrier 11, but if Jamie Kah can have her settled with cover in the moving line, Chain Of Lighting has an elite turn of foot and should prove too good once again for this.

Gold Coast Race 1: #1 Yiska @ $2.50
A Benchmark 72 Handicap for the three-year olds over 1200m is the first race of the day and it is where you will find our best bet in the Lee Freedman-trained, Yiska. This looks like the ideal event for this gelding to kick off his Spring campaign. With only three starts to his name, the son of Smart Missile has been the first past the post at all three, with a combined winning margin of 8.3 lengths over his rivals. The fact that Lee Freedman has given him one trial before bringing him back to the races, tells us that he is primed and ready to go at his first up assignment. Another positive is that Tegan Harrison sticks with the now three-year-old, after riding him to all three wins during his two-year-old season. If he jumps and leads like he has at two of his three starts to date, it will be very hard to run down this exciting galloper.
Morphettville Race 1: #1 Alpha Flight @ $3.20
The first horse we find in the race book is the Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trained Alpha Flight who has had a superb campaign thus far. The three-year-old gelding narrowly went down to Merry Mac Boy on the Parks track on August 27 in a stirring battle down the straight. He drops back to the 1050m, a distance that looks to suit him down to the ground as he showed when bolting home over 1100m two runs back on a Heavy 9. Ben Price sticks on board which is a massive plus considering he’ll claim 2kg. From barrier three, look for Price to lob this bloke outside expected leader Philosopher and with race fitness on his side and natural ability, Alpha Flight should be a great bank builder with online bookmakers in the opener.
Belmont Race 3: #3 Karli’s Karma @ $2.60
Summer Dickson puts the finishing touches on Karli’s Karma who is set to resume from a six-month spell and looks awfully hard to beat first up. The five-year-old mare was last seen finishing third behind Son Of A God and Bruce Almighty in the Listed Grandstand Cup when beaten a touch under three-lengths. It was a better performance than it reads on paper considering she suffered a bleed in running. She has trialled up a treat in the lead-up to this and considering she won first-up last time in, the $2.60 on offer with BetOnline looks to be a steal for a mare on the rise like Karli’s Karma.
