Saturday Slingshot: Horse racing best bets for July 22, 2023

The Saturday Slingshot presented by Bettingsite.com.au is here and it brings you the best bets for horse racing in Australia on Saturday, July 22, 2023 to help you launch into a winning weekend on the punt.

All odds are provided by leading online bookmakers recommended by Bettingsite.com.au

Caulfield Race 6: #1 Kin @ $2.10

Godolphin’s Kin was a dominant winner at the Caulfield 1100m on July 8 and, on her return to the track and trip, looks hard to go past in the opening leg of the quaddie. Following Celine Gaudray’s 2kg claim, the Impending filly gets in with just 56kg on her back and looks perfectly weighted. With a genuinely run race expected, look for Gaudray to have this girl towards the rear of the field from a tricky barrier (12). With the strongest turn of foot and a clear class edge, Kin should just be better than this lot

Rosehill Race 5: #2 Brudenell @ $2.60

Brudenell heads into the weekend third-up and should be primed for this assignment after being headed by a length at his latest effort on July 8 at Randwick. He pinged the lids to lead on that occasion as Insurrection got the better of him in the closing stages; however, boxed on gamely to cling onto second position. It was a ding-dong battle down the straight and with minimal speed installed this time, we’re confident Brudenell can adopt similar tactics. Tim Clark should allow this son of Russian Revolution to stride forward and with a kick in the locker, Brudenell will take plenty of chasing down in the shadows of the post.

Doomben Race 6: #10 Simbu @ $3.60

The QTIS 3YO Handicap will be one of the better contests on the program, where Tony Gollan-trained Simbu is looking to complete a hat-trick of wins. This gelding was very impressive when breaking his maiden at this track and trip two starts back on June 21, after settling on-speed and running away with a stylish 1.6-length victory. Although this son of Spirit Of Boom won last start, he wobbled around in the final 200m and showed that he doesn’t know what it’s all about yet. However, he chases the line and shows a strong will to win, and that could be enough to get Simbu home in this race.

Morphettville Race 1: #2 Alhambra Lad @ $2.35

In the opener, Patrick Payne’s Alhambra Lad will be looking to build his picket fence with a fourth-straight win. The five-year-old gelding has strung together consecutive Sandown 2400m wins in impressive fashion and now strikes a winnable BM72 at the same trip. Lachlan Overall has been aboard in each of those last three wins, and from barrier eight the pair will look to take control of proceedings. With 59.5kg on his back following Overall’s claim, Alhambra Lad will take a power of running down in a field stacked with non-winners.

Belmont Race 1: #1 Saloon Bar @ $2.80

We will be looking to kick off our day with a winner when Saloon Bar from the Daniel Morton yard steps up to 1400m in a 3YO Handicap second-up after finishing second behind Universal Flair on July 8. This three-year-old gelding settled midfield for most of the 1200m contest before bursting through a gap on the inside of runners to challenge the leader in the final strides, but just missed on the line. Now that this son of Sessions will be second-up, steps up to 1400m and stays in 3YO grade, we expect Chris Parnham to adopt similar tactics to last start but go one better to record his third career victory.
