The Saturday Slingshot presented by Bettingsite.com.au is here and it brings you the best bets for horse racing in Australia on Saturday, October 22, 2022 to help you launch into a winning weekend on the punt.

All odds are provided by leading online bookmakers recommended by Bettingsite.com.au

Moonee Valley Race 7: #1 Berkeley Square @ $2.40

Our best bet of the day comes up in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase as the Dan O’Sullivan-trained Berkeley Square looks to put the finishing touches on his preparation for the VRC Derby. The three-year-old gelding was a hard watch for those who backed him in the Caulfield Guineas when he was all dressed up with nowhere to go, whilst his rivals were making their moves. He has been nothing short of sensational this campaign and is armed with a devastating turn of foot for a stayer on the way up. He is proven on wet ground and despite this being his first time at The Valley, he simply looks to have a class edge on his rivals. Craig Williams continues his strong affiliation with the horse and if he can lob him midfield with cover, Berkeley Square should be within striking distance at the 600m mark where he can build through his gear, unleash a strong turn of foot and ultimately prove far too superior for this lot on his way to a clash with Mr Maestro in the Group 1 VRC Derby.

Randwick Race 5: #1 Bigboyroy @ $6.00

Hugh Bowman will take his second ever sit on the Chris Waller-trained Bigboyroy as he steps back in grade from running in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes and Theo Marks Stakes at his two runs back this preparation. Now that this son of Dissident drops down in class to a Quality Handicap over 1600m, where he has a very good record (13:3-3-4) and he should now be hard fit in what will be his third start back from a spell. Bowman will have to make his mind up early as he has drawn barrier 10 of 10 and this gelding likes to be on pace, so Bowman will hopefully push this guy out of the barriers and take up a prominent position. As long as the track doesn’t get into the Heavy range by the time we reach race five, this guy will be very hard to beat with any luck in running.

Doomben Race 4: #9 Enterprise Pomme @ $3.70

Enterprise Pomme finds the best bet tag on Saturday afternoon at Doomben, when she makes her first-up appearance this preparation. This mare by Spill the Beans has a fantastic unbeaten record when fresh going two starts for two wins, plus she has a great record at Doomben with three starts for two wins. She builds a similar profile that saw her win first-up last prep at this track and trip, where she beat market elect in this race Self Indulgent that day as well on February 12. Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted train this mare and will give apprentice Jaden Lloyd instruction to press forward on Enterprise Pomme, and if she can replicate her first-up efforts in the past, she looks the one to beat.

Morphettville Race 5: #3 I Am Bene @ $2.80

I Am Bene looks a class above metropolitan grade in South Australia and the Andrew Clarken-trained four-year-old looks a clear best bet of the day from Morphettville. The I Am Invincible mare struggled in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes on September 10 at Flemington, but prior to that was an eye-catching winner at Caulfield in similar company to what she faces this weekend. The step back to the six furlongs looks ideal considering he has won twice and placed from three runs at the 1200m. From barrier four, we expect Sophie Logan to lob three pairs back in the moving line and when asked for an effort, I Am Bene has a sharp turn of foot and looks a class above her rivals in a race like this. The $2.80 with BetOnline looks a perfect price to load into.

Ascot Race 4: #6 Mystery Island @ $4.40

The Lindsey Smith-trained Mystery Island has won two of his four runs this campaign, including last time out when taking a sit of the speed and charging home late. He is a natural on-pace galloper so the way he won last time out showed he has some form of versatility and can be ridden cold if need be. That should not be the case on Saturday having drawn barrier one and with Brad Parnham on board, we expect to see this son of Victoire Pisa settle on the heels of the leaders who will make this a genuinely run 2200m event and as long as they do not fall in his lap on the home turn, Mystery Island has race fitness on her side and ultimately prove to be the superior stayer.
