Eagle Farm Race 5: #2 Yellow Brick @ $2.70

After taking out the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas last start on return to the racetrack Yellow Brick will go into the Group 3 Fred Best Classic as the favourite and our best bet at Eagle Farm on Saturday afternoon. The three-year-old gelded son of The Mission was caught three-wide for the entire trip from a wide barrier, and at the top of the straight he was there to be beaten by many of his rivals. However, under the urgings of Ben Thompson, this gelding lifted and kicked clear with 300m to go and never looked like being beaten from then on, defeating Lady Laguna by 1.3 lengths over 1200m. After winning the Gold Coast Guineas, Maddysen Sears and Thompson agreed that their gelding is a serious racehorse and that he has returned the same horse, if not better, than last preparation. Thompson will continue his strong affiliation with Yellow Brick in the Fred Best Classic, and with even luck and clear air in the final 400m, he should be winning again.

Randwick Race 1: #5 Vomo Island @ $2.70

We’ll be looking to salute with our best bet nice and early on the Randwick card, as Vomo Island is ready to win second-up in the campaign. This Peter & Paul Snowden-trained two-year-old returned running a nice placing behind Kandinsky Abstract at Canterbury on May 3, and the form from that event is already producing subsequent winners. The runner-up Celestial Legend went on to score a dominant win last Saturday at Rosehill and Vomo Island has indicated he can do something similar based on his latest barrier trial. He’s better ridden with some cover and from barrier three we’d like to see jockey Tom Sherry try and gain the one-one position throughout the 1400m. This son of Dundeel will appreciate the step up in trip, and with race-day experience starting to show its benefit, we’re hopeful Vomo Island will put it all together on Saturday.

Sandown Race 3: #1 Good And Proper @ $3.70

The Mathew Ellerton-trained Good And Proper is yet to finish out of the placings in three runs this time in and we anticipate she will continue her good form on Saturday. The six-year-old mare won impressively two runs back on the Lakeside track over 1400m was super when getting the better of Megamea and Belle Savoir, before running in a stronger race than this at Flemington on May 13 when finishing third. Laura Lafferty’s 3kg claim gets her in with just 59kg on her back and considering she is the best horse in the race, she looks well weighted. Look for her to be at the rear of the field upon straightening and armed with a strong finish, Good And Proper should prove too tough to hold out.

Murray Bridge Race 6: #7 Outback Action @ $2.00

Our best bet of the day at Murray Bridge comes up in the opening leg of the quaddie as the Peter Moody-trained Outback Action looks to build on his last start Mornington triumph. The four-year-old gelded son of Better Land put three lengths on the smart Our Redente on April 22 when leading throughout. It is rarely a disadvantage to be out in front at Murray Bridge and with the in-form Jason Holder hopping on board, he is sure to give his rivals something to gun down. We expect ‘Stubby’ Holder to look for a cheap sectional upon settling and outside of the complete outside Masterarti, there looks to be little to no speed influencers in this and Outback Action should be strong for this lot following a comfy run in transit.

Belmont Race 2: #4 Supersession @ $2.05

The 1000m scamper for the three-year-olds willsee the Adam Durrant-trained Supersession return from an eight-week freshen, attempting to bring up his fourth win at his seventh career start. After rattling off three straight wins, this gelded son of Sessions ran into Leniency at his last two starts, where he was beaten 1.5 lengths and just under a length both times, before going out for a freshen. This three-year-old gelding should appreciate the amount of speed that is expected in this race, as he likes to get back and run on off the back of quickly run 1000m races. Five of the nine runners will push forward and look for the lead, which should mean that the race is run at a solid enough tempo for this guy to settle out the back, and then find the outside on the home turn and swoop over the top of them late. Clint Johnston-Porter has ridden Supersession at three of his six starts (3:2-0-1), and he will be legged aboard again for his return.
