Saturday Slingshot: Horse racing best bets for March 25, 2023

The Saturday Slingshot presented by Bettingsite.com.au is here and it brings you the best bets for horse racing in Australia on Saturday, March 25, 2023 to help you launch into a winning weekend on the punt.

All odds are provided by leading online bookmakers recommended by Bettingsite.com.au

Rosehill Race 7: #1 Prowess @ $2.70

Prowess makes her way to Australia after finding Group 1 success in the Bonecrusher Stakes at Pukekohe on March 11 and looks one of the better bets on the Rosehill program. Her dominance of the middle distance three-year-olds across the ditch has been on full display, when prior to her Group 1 win, she had put together three straight wins against her age group; including The Group 2 Auckland Guineas and the Group 2 Fillies Classic. She’s been excellent and if she can bring that form to Australia, we believe she’s clearly the one to beat. She’s well in at the set weights of 56kg on her rating, and while we respect the likes of Fireburn and Pavitra, it’s hard to see them chasing down Prowess turning for home. She’ll be taking her customary position of leading or just sit in behind a crossing Soul Choice, and from there Mark Zahra be pinching a break turning for home. She’s fit, has class, and looks the one to beat in the Vinery Stud Stakes.

Flemington Valley Race 8: #3 Pinstriped @ $6.00

We are getting a ludicrous price about Pinstriped on Saturday, because with the withdrawal of Inundation, he simply looks a class above his rivals in the penultimate race of the day. He has a win and a second from two starts at the Flemington 1400m, including a win in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes and should be building on that record here. He gains the services of the in-form Blake Shinn which looks to be a massive addition and if he can grab a tow into the race from the rear of the field, he looks a clear best bet of the day. He has a strong turn of foot and second-up at 1400m looks to be the recipe for success for Pinstriped.

Doomben Race 4: #2 Sha Of Gomer @ $3.40

Our best bet for the day at Eagle Farm will be the Chris Waller-trained Sha Of Gomer, who has won back-to-back races over 1200m and 1350m and will now race over 1600m for the first time in his nine-race career. This three-year-old gelding was very impressive last time out, when he had a lot of traffic in front of him halfway down the home straight, but he found a gap along the rail and burst through to win easily. This Shalaa son is now at peak fitness as he prepares for his sixth race of the season, and he looks ready to attempt the 1600m after strong wins in his last two starts. James Orman will retain the ride on this gelding on Saturday, looking for his third win in a row after giving him back-to-back 10 out of 10 rides. We expect Orman to settle Sha Of Gomer near the back of the field and let him find his feet on the outside of the field before letting down with that customary turn of foot and proving too strong in the closing stages from barrier eight.

Morphettville Race 6: #4 Rialtor @ $3.00

Our best bet at Morphettville comes up in the opening leg of the quaddie as the Stuart Padman-trained Rialtor looks to add a second straight win at the Parks 1500m. The five-year-old gelding gained an uncontested lead from a low draw under Sheridan Tomlinson on March 11 and gave his rivals no chance when landing the chocolates by three lengths. It looks to be an action replay come Saturday with the pair drawn barrier one and seemingly getting another uncontested lead over the 1550m. Despite rising from a BM62 to a BM68 he drops 1kg following the apprentice’s claim and with a bit of luck Rialtor should have too much of a break with 200m to go and prove too good once again.

Ascot Race 3: #7 Western Knight @ $3.30

Our best bet for the day will be Western Knight, a very smart gelding from the Adam Durrant yard who won first-up this preparation over 1400m at this track on March 4. This Ifraaj son has only finished second once in six career starts, and now that he has broken through and won in Saturday grade at this track last start, he looks ready to step up in grade and win an RTG 72+ this weekend. This gelding is well bred and should go on to bigger and better things this preparation as a full brother to the very talented Group 1 winner Western Empire. Six of the seven runners in this race prefer to race on speed, with this gelding being the only one who prefers to settle near the back of the field, so the race should suit him well. William Pike will retain the ride after winning on him last start, and we expect Pike to settle Western Knight in the one-one position from barrier three and let down with that blistering turn of foot he displayed last start to record a second win in a row.
