Round 14 of the NRL continues this Saturday when two Origin-affected sides, the Melbourne Storm and Sydney Roosters, clash at the SCG. The Storm could potentially be missing stars such as Cameron Munster, Xavier Coates, Harry Grant, and Felise Kaufusi should they fail to back up from Wednesday night. Likewise, the Roosters risk losing James Tedesco and Lindsay Collins. The Roosters will be looking to restore the SCG to a ground they once held an almost perfect win record at, so will the missing State of Origin players assist them?

In 43 clashes with the Storm, the Roosters have only won on 18 occasions with one draw, including their horrible game most recently where the Storm scored 46 unanswered points. While that form looks poor, that game was almost 12 months ago without Luke Keary and Connor Watson, who have been key players for the Roosters so far this season. Keary is beginning to form a combination with his outside backs, while Watson is proving a pivotal impact player off the bench.

The Roosters are incredible value in this game given it’s unlikely that Munster, Grant, Coates and Kaufusi will back up. The Roosters may also be missing captain Tedesco, but they have an incredible backup in Joseph Manu. If the Roosters do go on to win at the SCG, look for it to be by a small margin, making the 1-12 bracket for the Roosters great value at $3.45 with BetOnline.

Speaking of Manu, he had one of the greatest performances of this season last week against the Raiders, running for over 200m and busting 14 tackles with a try assist. Look for the Kiwi to cross the stripe on his own this weekend and add to his total of seven tries for the year. The online bookies have him around $3.25 in the anytime tryscorer market.

Joseph Suaalii has proven in recent weeks that he is an absolute athletic freak. His ability to go to the air and pluck cross field kicks from thin air is unlike any we’ve seen in the NRL. Suaalii is paying $8.75 to score two or more tries, which is great value given his incredible talent.

Outside of their halves, the Storm are incredibly light on for outside backs with Reimis Smith and Ryan Papenhuyzen missing through injury. Factor in the Origin problem, and it makes Saturday’s task all the more difficult.

These two sides may be missing some key players, but they are not prone to entirely poor performances without them. Look for this match to be a high-scoring one with both teams trying to chalk up important wins through the representative season.

Players to watch: All State of Origin stars

These two sides for many years have been heavily impacted during the State of Origin period with many players away on rep duties. The turnaround to Saturday afternoon from Wednesday’s game could prove too short, meaning some players will need to be rested. For the Roosters, Tedesco is arguably the best fullback in the game, while Munster is one of the best five-eighths and Kaufusi one of the best defensive backrowers. The deciding factor in this game could very well be who backs up on Saturday. Final team lists will be more important than ever.
