The Sydney Roosters will host the North Queensland Cowboys at the Sydney Cricket Ground in what will be one of the most important games of the 2022 NRL season.

The Roosters need a win to help secure a top eight berth, while the Cowboys need a win to keep the ‘they can’t beat good teams in Sydney’ crowd at bay.

The Roosters have won four games in a row, with their latest a 34-16 demolition of Brisbane.

The Cowboys have won four of their last five and put the Bulldogs away 28-14 last weekend, so neither fan base can argue about the form guide.

The Roosters since the bye have looked far more like the team many thought they would be in 2022. Apart from a second half against Manly where they lost focus, they’ve been ruthless.

They have scored 54, 42 and 34 points in the other three games and one feels as though their credentials for the premiership will get a big shot in the arm if they’re able to defeat the Cowboys.

They have the Storm and Rabbitohs to come in the run home, but a shake-up of the competition starts somewhere, and even though they’re a $1.62 favourite, many would see this as somewhat of an upset based on the seasons results.

James Tedesco almost feels like a moral to score a try at $2.25. He almost always steps up when his team needs him and in their biggest game so far this year, he will rise.

Drinkwater has a step, jink, double-clutch or a flick pass that can embarrass any defender, while Tedesco’s nose for the football means he is forever in the contest and can wear you down with enthusiasm. One of the best match-ups all season.
