The Canberra Raiders have won only three of their last 26 matches at Allianz Stadium, but they will fancy their chances when they head up to Sydney to face the Rooster this Sunday in the closing game for round 17 of the 2023 NRL Premiership.

The Raiders have named an unchanged line-up from their round 15 loss to the Warriors in Canberra. Hudson Young and Corey Horsburgh are both expected to back up from Wednesday’s State of Origin clash in Brisbane.

The Roosters will welcome Victor Radley back into the starting side from suspension, with Origin stars James Tedesco and Lindsay Collins both expected to suit up. Luke Keary has been named to play at five-eighth despite suffering a suspected factored jaw against the Knights in round 16.

Although the Raiders have a horrendous record at Allianz, they will be determined to bounce back from their horrible loss in Jarrod Crocker’s 300th match for the club. The Raiders are great value at $3.50 with BetOnline to win by the 1-12 margin.

Matt Timoko’s form of late has dipped below where he was a month ago, when he was scoring tries at will for the Raiders. However, with a bruised and battered Keary lining up on the Roosters’ left side, Timoko is a brilliant anytime tryscorer play ($3.20). He can score running strong lines or picking up kicks, making him the biggest threat on the Raiders’ right-hand side.

Canberra have a point to prove after last week’s defeat, while the 11th-placed Sydney Roosters are looking to rebuild their season. Expect a strong defensive performance from both sides, with the total score falling below 42.5 points ($1.91).

Sandon Smith is having just his second start at NRL level in the halfback position for the Roosters and will be defending against one of the strongest footballers in the league, Jack Wighton. Smith carried himself well against the Knights in his run-on debut, but Wighton will be out to intimidate him physically and make his night as difficult as possible. If Wighton is successful in taking time and space away from Smith, the Roosters will be even more vulnerable to an upset.
