Renegades v Strikers BBL betting tips & odds – January 24, 2023

The Adelaide Strikers will get their last chance to secure a spot in the top five of the BBL standings when they travel to Melbourne to take on the Renegades this Tuesday night.

The home side come into this match with a mixed bag of form. The Renegades almost took down the Scorchers in Perth despite losing fast bowler David Moody in the second over of the match, while the Strikers are trying to snap a four-game losing streak.

The Strikers have a wealth of batting talent in their XI, including Matt Short, Travis Head and Alex Carey. The trio have not really fired in the last fortnight, however, and should not be relied on in this game. The Renegades are the safest bet to win at their home ground ($1.90).

Since returning to the side through injuries to Peter Handscomb and Nic Maddinson, Sam Harper has been in fantastic form for the Melbourne Renegades at number three. Harper is a top-order batter with traditional cricket shots who can also improvise and manufacture more unconventional strokes to force the opposition into field adjustments. Although he missed out in his last two hits, Harper has two half-centuries from as many knocks at Docklands this season — either side of a 63 at Adelaide Oval — and looks a great bet to top score for the ‘Gades again ($4.50).

Kane Richardson has been the leader of this Renegades bowling attack for many years. He has been one of Australia’s best white-ball bowlers in recent years too, and is always entrusted by captain Aaron Finch with bowling the big overs. The Strikers will be looking to attack in a must-win game, which is something Richardson is very good at taking advantage of. Look for him to take two or more wickets for the Renegades ($2.25).

Key matchup: Martin Guptill v Matt Short

The top-order battle between these two sides could be brilliant to watch if these two players get off to a good start. Matt Short and Martin Guptill have the ability to score runs all around the ground at the drop of a hat. What can evade these players at time is the ability to think their way through an innings early. With the predicaments both these sides find themselves in, their openers have a big role to play in steadying the nerves of the rest of their side. This one could come down to whoever of Short and Guptill handles the big moments best.
