The KFC BBL Finals draw nearer as the Hobart Hurricanes host the Sydney Sixers in a must win game at Blundstone Arena in Hobart. The Hurricanes have the faintest chance of making the BBL Finals with a win, while a win for the Sixers could put them at the top of the BBL ladder.

The last time these two sides met, a fast start from Josh Phillipe and some fantastic spin bowling from Todd Murphy and Stephen O’Keefe was what separated these two sides. On Monday night, Steve Smith will be opening the batting, will he prove too much for the Hurricanes to conquer?

The Hobart Hurricanes have lost their last two matches in a row and face an up hill battle to clinch a spot in the BBL finals. For the Sixers, they are one of the most well balanced sides in the BBL with an added motivation of Dan Christian’s retirement to boost them. The Sixers are more than capable of going to Tasmania and winning on the road paying $1.57.

While Smith has hit back-to-back centuries for the Sydney Sixers, however, he can’t be expected to score all the runs for the men in pink. Moises Henriques has been the best performed Sixers with the bat for over a decade. Averaging just shy of 30 runs per innings with the bat, much of Henriques success can be credited to stabilising the batting order when wickets are falling. Should the Hurricanes start well, Henriques will be thrust into this position again, giving him the opportunity to be the Sixers highest run scorer for the match paying $5.25.

Riley Meredith has loved bowling at Blundstone Arena for the Hurricanes this season. Taking eight wickets in four matches with one man of the match performance, Meredith has found a way to use his express pace entirely to his advantage. That pace of Meredith will make the Sixers batters very uncomfortable, giving him a brilliant opportunity to take 3+ wickets for the home side paying $5.25 with the top Australian bookies.

These two opening batters are cut from a very similar cloth, being right handers who love to attack the opposition in the opening power play. Both men can play shots all around the ground and get their side to 40 or 50 runs in the first five overs. They have both been short of form in recent weeks, and will have their own motivations for standing up Monday night and delivering for their respective sides.
