Round 16: South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Manly Sea Eagles preview

Round 16 of the NRL Premiership continues on Saturday night with a rematch from round one as the South Sydney Rabbitohs host the Manly Sea Eagles at Accor Stadium.

The return of Latrell Mitchell sparked a resurgence of form for the Rabbitohs, who have won three of their last five matches. Souths remain several wins from the top eight, and wins during this representative period will be key to their chances of sneaking into the finals.

The Sea Eagles have struggled to find consistent form since winning back-to-back games in round eight. Still, they sit eighth on the ladder heading into round 16 and will be eager to improve their position.

Manly coach Anthony Seibold will be without State of Origin stars Daly Cherry-Evans, Haumole Olakau’atu and Jake Trbojevic, as well as Reuben Garrick (concussion) and Taniela Paseka (thumb).

The Rabbitohs are far less disrupted. Jye Gray returns from an ankle injury to replace Mitchell at fullback, with Liam Le Blanc named to make his NRL debut off the interchange.

The Rabbitohs have won four of their last five clashes with Manly. The Sea Eagles are without several of their biggest stars, and away from their home ground, Souths should win and cover the -7.5 handicap (-111.11).

Rabbitohs halfback Cody Walker appears to save his best football for Manly. He has been the first tryscorer in three of his last five matches against them, and he’s scored a try in four of the last five between these sides. As the chief playmaker, Walker is a great chance of scoring again (+140).

If points are to come from anywhere for Manly, it will likely be through winger Jason Saab. In nine of Souths’ last 10 matches, the opposition right winger has scored at least one try. With two tries in each of his last two games, +100 at Neds is great value for Saab to cross at some stage.
