Paris Olympics: Keegan Palmer claims gold in Men’s Park Final
A few months ago, Keegan Palmer was grappling with pain, stress, and the fear that his Paris Olympics dreams were slipping away.
Today, he stands as a skateboarding legend, having overcome these challenges to claim his second consecutive Olympic gold medal.
Palmer’s victory came in a field significantly stronger than the one he faced in Tokyo.
His exceptional performance at La Concorde earned Australia its second skateboarding gold in two days, following Arisa Trew’s win in the women’s park final.
The high expectations for Palmer’s performance led to only two of the eight finalists avoiding falls in the opening round, as they pushed their limits in an attempt to surpass the favourite with leading sports bookmakers.
Palmer’s flawless performance in the first round, which featured impressive alley oops and backflips, led to an unbeatable score of 93.11.
Despite a strong challenge from the US’s Tom Schaar, who scored 92.23, Palmer’s early lead held firm, cementing his status as a skateboarding great.
