Friday night NBL action takes place in the tropical north with the Cairns Taipans hosting the Melbourne United at the Cairns Convention Centre. The United will be looking to continue their winning form having beaten the Hawks and thumped the Wildcats last week. Meanwhile, the Taipans will be looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss too the Kings that came in the final two seconds of the match in Sydney.

History is against the Taipans as they have only won one of their last five matches against the United. The United have also win their last seven Friday night matches in the NBL, while the Taipans are yet to win a game at home this season and will be more motivated than ever to do so.

The Taipans have had a long start to the season, having only played two of their seven games this season in Cairns. The United have had an incredibly sheltered start to the 2022/23 season, having only one game away from home and beating the Hawks. The Taipans are a much better side than the Hawks, and the trip north could be incredibly taxing for the United, making the Taipans a very smart play at $1.85 with BetOnline.

DJ Hogg and Sam Waardenburg were instrumental for the Taipans when they clashed with the Kings, scoring 47 points combined at close to 65% shooting from the field with Keanu Pinder in support. The combination of Hogg and Waardenburg in the front court with Pinder starting and Majok Deng coming off the bench allows the Taipans to spread the floor with their offense to share the ball and create more open opportunities in attack. Bul Koul also stepped up against the Kings with his scoring, giving the Taipans a variety of threats in attack. Should the Taipans get their offense to gel, they will have every chance of recording the highest-scoring quarter of the match at $1.80.

Key matchup: Shannon Scott vs Chris Goulding

Chris Goulding is the captain and leader of this United offense, and one of the most dangerous perimeter shooters in the NBL. Even when Goulding is not shooting well and scoring efficiently from the perimeter, he is spacing the floor and creating options for his team mates. Shannon Scott will almost certainly be the Taipan tasked with guarding Goulding. Should Scott shut Goulding down, he will have the opportunity to push the pace on offense, assisting his teammates in getting good looks at the basket that will help propel this Taipans side to its first home-court win of the season.
