Premier Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan hopes sprinter Most Important will have overcome the Caulfield curse when he returns to the Melbourne track.

Most Important had a great summer in Brisbane earning a $500,000 bonus for winning the sprint triple crown.

It was enough for him to earn Queensland’s Best Four-Year-Old or Older title at the annual racing awards night last week.

Gollan decided on the Melbourne spring carnival instead of a winter campaign for Most Important.

The gelding had his first Melbourne start when last to Vega Magic in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes on August 19.

Gollan gave Most Important time to get over the run and nominated him for the Bobbie Lewis Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

“But that didn’t really suit him and we decided to wait another week and tackle a Listed race, the Testa Rossa Stakes over 1200 metres on Saturday,” Gollan said.

‘”He is much better than that last run and hopefully it was a case of a horse not handling Caulfield at his first try.”

Most Important has had two jump-outs since the Regal Roller run and pleased Gollan.

“He went well in the jump-outs and I am expecting a better effort this week. We won’t look too far ahead until after that run,” Gollan said.

Most Important was one of 28 entries taken on Monday for the race headed by Group One placegetters Jungle Edge and Missrock.

Brave Smash, who will represent the Australian Turf Club in next month’s $10 million Everest, is also among the nominations.
