Moher chases consolation win for Godolphin

The powerful Godolphin stable is looking for a consolation win after having to scratch It’s Somewhat from the Group One Doomben Cup.

It’s’ Somewhat was found to have an elevated temperature on Wednesday afternoon and trainer James Cummings had no option but to scratch the 2017 Doncaster Mile winner.

His withdrawal Ieaves Moher as Godolphin’s only chance to win a stakes race at Doomben on Saturday in the Group Three BRC Sprint.

A fighting fifth at his most recent start in the Gold Coast Cup on May 5, Moher is noted for improving as he gets into his preparation and Cummings is hopeful that will again be the case.

“Moher is prepared to run the best run of his preparation in the BRC Sprint and he’s certainly going into the race looking as good as we’ve had him,” Cummings said.

“This will be an interesting throw at the stumps for Moher. He’s getting deeper into his campaign.”

Moher’s best form has been around 1600m but Cummings believes he can still sprint well.

“He still has a bit of freshness in his legs against some horses who have been campaigning for a fair while,” he said.

Moher was at $23 on Thursday with the Bjorn Baker-trained Test The World the $3.70 favourite.
