Memento scores maiden win at Warwick Farm
Memento has broken through at Warwick Farm for trainers Anthony and Edward Cummings.
The Anthony and Edward Cummings-trained filly Memento could be back in contention for a crack at black-type racing after winning her maiden at Warwick Farm.
The Anthony and Edward Cummings-trained three-year-old broke her duck at the seventh attempt in the TAB.com.au Plate (1100m) on Wednesday.
Memento ($7) pulled clear at the 200m to score by 1/1/2-lengths from Ridicule ($3).
Touch Of Mink ($18) filled the minor placing, another 2-1/2 lengths adrift.
Anthony Cummings was relieved after the Your Song filly, who was third in the Group Three Magic Night Stakes (1200m) in her previous preparation, finally clicked on race day.
“She was very professional, it’s the first time she’s actually got it all together … clean out of the gates, she took a position and then came away in the end,” Cummings said.
“That’s the perfect result in terms of her education and I think from here now she’ll go up into better grades and be effective.”
Memento had issues at the kick in earlier campaigns but the addition of a barrier blanket addressed that issue.
“It’s made a big difference to her this prep. She jumped cleanly last time and then sort of drifted back but today, having made use of a good start she showed what we see of her most mornings at home.”
Cummings said another crack at black type was now on the horizon.
“When we started we thought we might be lining up for a (Group One) Flight Stakes or something like that but that’s going to come too soon for her I think.
“There’s a (Listed) Reginald Allen (Quality) the week after (October 14).
“There’s some other nice races around. If she continues to take the steps she could easily finish up in Melbourne,” he said.
Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller had a successful meeting with Sparky Lad, Exoteric, Lead Choreographer and The Avenger providing a quartet of wins.
