Round 11 of the NBL continues in Tasmania with a mid-table clash between the JackJumpers and the Cairns Taipans at MyState Bank Arena. Both sides will be looking to improve their records during this middle stage of the season to ensure their spot in the play-in tournament for the 2022/23 NBL Championship.

The Taipans will be hoping to build their win streak to three having beaten the Hawks and Bullets in rounds 10 and 11, while the JackJumpers have won their last three in a row. Tasmania’s most impressive win came over the Kings in their last start as they outscored Sydney by a whopping 26-6 in the final quarter.

The JackJumpers have been victorious in three of their last five matches against the Taipans; however, their most recent clash ended in the Queensland team winning in Hobart. The JackJumpers will be intent on making amends for their loss to the Taipans earlier in the season and, given their recent form, are the best bet to win this match.

The JackJumpers have been led by Rashard Kelly, Jack McVeigh and especially Milton Doyle on the offensive end this season. All three combine their abilities of perimeter shooting, attacking the paint and forcing their way to the free-throw line, making them one of the most dangerous trios in the NBL. Doyle is a greater threat than most, and on his home court, he should lead the JackJumpers to the highest-scoring quarter of the match.

The Taipans have their own core group in Tahjere McCall, DJ Hogg and Keanu Pinder, who are just as dangerous as Tasmania’s trio. McCall and Hogg have elite perimeter shooting that spaces the floor offensively, allowing Pinder to attack the paint and get to the free-throw line more regularly than most in the NBL. Should both sides be at their offensive best on Saturday, the score should go well over the 165.5 total match points.

Key matchup: Keanu Pinder vs Milton Doyle

This will be one of the greatest battles to watch this weekend. Both players are elite scorers in the NBL that benefit from the spaced offensive systems of their sides to attack the paint and get to the free-throw line regularly. They are elite in the mid-range and at the basket, making them incredibly hard to stop. If the Taipans are unable to stop Doyle from getting on a role in Hobart, the Taipans will not be able to get the win on the road.
