Brisbane trainer, former jockey Chris Munce, will take on SA apprentice Justin Huxtable.
Talented South Australian apprentice Justin Huxtable is set to try his luck in Queensland with trainer Chris Munce as his master.
Huxtable has ridden 109 winners in South Australia and still has a 2kg allowance in the metropolitan area.
Munce said he expected Huxtable to arrive in Brisbane at the end of September for an initial three-month stay.
“There is a shortage of city apprentices at the moment and if things work out well he will stay on for longer,” Munce said.
“I am told he is very talented so there should be plenty of opportunities for him here.”
Munce is set to further his own experience with a working holiday to the USA.
“I am going to spend a week in Kentucky and then a week in California at Santa Anita. I want to see how they do things over there and if we can apply it here,” he said.
The former champion jockey has made a good fist of training with 220 winners since he swapped his saddle for a trainer’s licence in 2015.
“You never stop learning in this game and America is one of the places where you can get plenty of knowledge,” Munce said.
