GWS Giants defender Sam Taylor out indefinitely after surgery
GWS Giants player Sam Taylor will be out of action indefinitely following surgery for a ruptured testicle.
The incident occurred during the 22-point victory against Port Adelaide in round 14 of the AFL Premiership.
GWS Giants confirmed the news via social media.
“Sam Taylor will be sidelined after suffering a ruptured testicle during last week’s match and undergoing successful surgery yesterday.
Sam’s home and recovering with a timeline for his return to be set after consultation with specialists.
Sending our love to Slammer 🧡”
The team will miss his presence as they prepare to face the first-place Sydney Swans this weekend, where the star defenceman was expected to play against Joel Amartey.
With only one win being the difference between seventh and second, GWS will be looking to end Sydney’s nine-win streak.
Sydney’s coach recently praised Taylor as the best defender in the league.
“Sam Taylor is definitely one of the defenders in the league now,” Longmire mentioned.
The Giants must figure out how to fill the void left by Taylor’s expertise and guidance in defence to defeat the Swans and maintain their chances for the AFL finals.
The top AFL bookmakers are currently offering $2.70 for the upset win against the Sydney Swans.
