Round 17 Result:
Collingwood Magpies: Loss to West Coast, 67 – 102
North Melbourne Kangaroos: Loss to Sydney, 98 – 104
The Collingwood Magpies and the North Melbourne Kangaroos will do battle at the MCG on Saturday in a match with huge finals implications.
Hoping to redeem themselves after losing last week, both teams are in need of a strong victory.
It seemed that the Magpies’ injury list finally caught up with them in last week’s match against the Eagles, losing by 35 points while surrendering their top-two position.
Unable to cover the loss of Mason Cox was at the centre of Collingwood’s woes, as Eagle Jeremy McGovern was left to do as he pleased across half back in a best-on-ground intercept role.
North Melbourne took part in one of the best matches of 2018 against Sydney in Round 17, but could not get the chocolates over the Sydney Swans.
A last minute goal form Allir Allir sealed the deal in the six-point thriller. The Roos fought valiantly in the loss and can hold their head high coming into this week’s match.
The controversy surrounding Collingwood’s star-on-the-rise, Jordan de Goey, was quelled a month ago after he signed a two year deal, committing to the Magpies until he end of the 2020 season. As one of the front-runners in the market for de Goey, North Melbourne offered the midfielder a five-year, five-million dollar contract, making serious waves.
Will Jordan de Goey show the Kangaroos exactly what they’re missing in this one?
Here are our tips for the upcoming match between the Magpies and the Kangaroos.
Collingwood Magpies vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos Round 18 – Total Goals Tips
Collingwood Magpies 14 – 15 Goals @ $4.50
After a poor performance last week, we expect a fairly significant bounce-back from Nathan Buckley’s men. Ben Crocker was a liability up forward against the Eagles, take him out for big Mason Cox or another returning player and the side looks stronger. With less long kicking into the forward line the Magpies can get through Robbie Tarrant and Scott Thompson, who have held the fort well for the Roos. Will Hoskin-Elliot hasn’t kicked a goal in two of his last three matches — do not be surprised if he explodes for a big total.
North Melbourne Kangaroos 12 – 13 Goals @ $4.20
North Melbourne has plenty of fine players all across the pitch, but we don’t see them getting through the Collingwood backline more than a dozen times. On average the Kangaroos kick exactly 13 goals per match. We believe that will continue.
Collingwood Magpies vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos Round 18 – Player Specials Tips
Brodie Grundy to lay 6 tackles @ $2.00
As the best ground level ruckman in the league, Grundy needs to put in a big effort in order to get the Pies over the line this week, and laying half a dozen tackles is a great way to do so.
Shaun Higgins to get 30 Disposals @ $2.40
Higgins has rightfully taken the label as a Brownlow medal smokey after a brilliant season. Last week against the Swans, the veteran star gathered the footy more than any other player with 33 disposals — one of his finer matches of the season. We expect Shaun to go back-to-back this week and get over 30 once again. The depleted Magpies midfield still contains many stars, but with Greenwood in the backline and in the forward half, they have no tagger that can stop Higgins.
Collingwood Magpies vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos Round 18 – Wire to Wire Tip
Any Other Result @ $2.10
The wire to wire offers three options before the match — Collingwood to lead all quarters, North Melbourne to lead all quarters or our personal pick, any other result. If the match has different leaders during any of the breaks, it’s a win for us. This market is a popular one due to its simplicity. Collingwood have started poorly in many matches this season but finished well, while the Roos have given up leads and sluggishly ended matches.
Magpies vs. Kangaroos Match Predictions
Match Result: Collingwood Magpies to win @ $1.56
Line Betting: Collingwood Magpies – 11.5 @ $1.92
We think the Woods will get the victory in this match. If the inclusions are favourable for the Pies, you could see a big loss coming the way of the Roos, which would put a dent in their finals chances.
