Foxplay no certainty for Rosehill: Waller

Chris Waller is considering options for Foxplay, including the possibility of missing a Theo Marks Stakes clash with stablemate Egg Start.

Sydney’s premier trainer has Foxplay in Saturday’s Group Three race at Rosehill but admits her second-up run could be delayed until Randwick next weekend.

He said Foxplay’s effort in almost keeping Winx at bay in the Group Two Warwick Stakes had taken its toll on the four-year-old.

“It’s a lovely race (on Saturday) but I don’t want to flatten her,” Waller said.

“She took a good week to get over her first-up run against Winx.

“Her work since then has been very good but I don’t want to flatten her again.

She’s also giving some pretty handy horses three or four kilos on weight.”

Winner of the Group One Queen of the Turf Stakes during the Sydney autumn carnival, Foxplay has been given 59kg in Theo Marks for which she is the $4.60 third favourite behind Egg Tart ($2.90).

“It’s big weight for a mare to be carrying against these types of horses,” Waller said.

Waller nominated the George Main Stakes or the Bill Ritchie Handicap as alternative races for Foxplay.

Egg Tart won two Group One races as part of a long winning streak in three states earlier this year and she will chasing her seventh victory in a row.

“The 1300 (metres) is probably a touch short. As long as she’s attacking the line I’ll be more than happy,” Waller said.

Good Project ($17) rounds out Waller’s possible three-pronged assault when the six-year-old races for the first time since a fifth in the Group One Stradbroke Handicap in June.

“He holds a bit of residual fitness from there. I think he’ll run a cheeky race,” Waller said.
